Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time
HUMILITY
Have you ever been in a group of
people—maybe on a tour, at a social
gathering, or at church—and discovered that
you have just been talking with a well-known
author, corporate CEO, great scholar, or
politician? Your first thought is the hope that
you didn’t say anything to embarrass yourself;
but your second thought is how much they
seemed like such “regular” folks. What is it
that makes people seem so “regular”? Today’s
readings give us a clue when they stress the importance of
humility.
It is so hard for us not to tell the first person who will
listen how busy we are, how hard we work, how much
money we donate, and how important our job titles are. We
think these accolades make a difference to people, and if
we don’t tell them, how will they ever know? But if our
actions demonstrate our values, people will recognize our
worth on their own. The words of Jesus show us how much
better it is to let someone else recognize our worth than to
be embarrassed because someone did not. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

HUMILDAD
a saberlo?

Question of the Week
Pregunta de la Semana
Question for Children: Jesus tells us that we should treat
everyone as a guest. Who do you tend to shun or not be nice to?
Question for Youth: God asks us to do for others without hope
of repayment. This past week, what did you do for someone
else for which you won’t be repaid? Who are the people most in
need of your generosity?
Question for Adults: Who are the people living near you that
you would find it most difficult to invite to a meal in your
home? Or to invite to be part of your life?
bien?
vidas?
"Such is the complete confidence in
Respect
God that we have through Christ...Our
competence comes from God who has empowered
us..." (2 Corinthians 3:4-6)
Reflection: The same Holy Spirit who created the
universe, descended upon the womb of Mary, came as
tongues of fire at Pentecost, and leads the Church on her
mission, is the one who calls and equips us for our pro-life
work. Let us not lack for a moment the confidence and joy
which come from Him, and which impel us to build a
“Culture of Life.”
Prayer: Come, Holy Spirit, and equip us, just as you
equipped disciples of every century, to advance the Gospel
of Life. Amen!
Amen!

Healing Broken Hearts-One Weekend at a Time
To celebrate the Jubilee Year of Mercy, Father
Phong Pham of Cross Catholic Outreach,
commissioned by Pope Francis in Rome as a
Missionary of Mercy, will be visiting our parish
next weekend. Father will speak at all the
Masses on behalf of the poor in developing
countries. What a blessed occasion to receive
the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Pope Francis said: “God is the light that illuminates the darkness, even if it does not dissolve it, and a spark of divine light is
within each of us.” Sometimes situations and decisions from the
past can make us feel disconnected and alone. If you have emotional or spiritual wounds as a result of a past abortion, please
consider attending our upcoming Rachel’s Vineyard weekend
retreat September 9-11, 2016. It’s an opportunity for women and
men to experience God’s love, forgiveness and compassion.
Lives are restored and peace is found. Let the Year of Mercy be
the time to embrace God’s merciful love. Participation is strictly
confidential. For more information, please contact Mary Huber
at 909-475-5353 or [email protected] or visit the website
Rachelsvineyard.org.

Would you like to volunteer to
be a Wedding Coordinator?
All weddings at St. Frances X. Cabrini
Church require the use of a Wedding
Coordinator. The main role of the Wedding
Coordinator is to help lead the rehearsal on the night before
the wedding. On the day of the wedding, the Wedding
Coordinator arrives at least 1 hr prior to the ceremony to set
up for the celebration, assist the celebrant and wedding party
during the ceremony, and help pick-up after the ceremony.
Rehearsals are a 1 – 1 ½ hr time commitment. Weddings are
scheduled on Saturdays at 1:00 p.m. Commitments
throughout the year vary. If you would like to join this joyous
ministry, please contact Ursula at 909-797-2533 ext 225.
For someone who is grieving the death of a
loved one, one of the many difficult moments is
coping with special days such as birthdays,
anniversaries, thanksgivings and other holidays
that occur throughout the year. Because we
are grieving, these holidays have a tendency to
sneak up on us, leaving us totally unprepared.
On Monday, Sept. 19, the Bereavement
Ministry offers a special session on “How to
Survive the Holidays,” scheduled
from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. If you are
interested in attending this session,
please contact Ursula Benitez at
909-797-2533 ext. 225 to sign-up.
Ministry to the Sick and Homebound
“No greater gift can be given to those who suffer than the gift
of Christ himself in the Eucharist.” (Pastoral Care of the Sick)
Currently, we have 29 Ministers, who bring communion to 130
homebound. We are in constant need of additional volunteers, so
that when a request is made, we are ready to assign a minister.
Our ministers not only bring Christ to the homebound, they also
serve as a link to our church community. For many, our
volunteers are the only outside contact and by visiting them once
a week; we let them know that they have not been forgotten. So
I am asking you to please look into your heart; is one hour a
week really too much to ask to serve those who
want to take part in our worship, but can’t? For
additional information on this rewarding ministry,
please contact Ursula at 909-797-2533 ext. 225.

Stephen Ministry … We, in the Stephen Ministry, would like to thank each of our care receivers—
those special people, who are currently receiving care from one of our ministers, and all those who have
received such care in the past, for the courtesy, warmth, and trust with which you have received us as
care givers. Without exception our relationships have developed from the caregiver-care receiver status
to one of genuine friendship. Who are the people we refer to as our care receivers? They are our St.
Frances brothers and sisters who need our help. The needs vary greatly, from an elderly person who is
shut in, isolated and lonely, to the young one who is feeling harassed and stressed with too many issues
in his/her life. The situation may stem from a serious illness or injury, death of a loved one, or questions and issues
related to one’s own health or death. We are open to most situations. If you are hurting in some way...we care, and
want to help!!! Each of us experience times when we are lonely, grieving, sad, hurting, and in need of care. At such
times we find comfort through others who reach out to help. This is what Stephen Ministers do!!! We offer Christian
friendship and love, a strong support system, compassion, understanding, and patience. We will be “there for you”
through difficult, stressful times to help you “sort things out,” and make sense of things that frustrate, anger, and make
you sad, without intruding in your life. If you are in need of our help, please call CC at 909.797.2533 ext. 221 and tell
her about your needs.
