Today the Church honours the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, :one of our Blessed Mother’s principal feasts The
earliest accounts of this mystery are from the 5th or 6th century. In the thirteenth century, Albert the Great, St. Aquinas, and St.
Bonaventure endorsed the teaching, which was then a pious belief. In 1950 Pope Pius XII issued the apostolic constitution
Munificentissimus Deus declaring “. . . for the glory of Almighty God, who poured his special affection upon the Virgin Mary for
the honour of his Son . . . we pronounce, declare, and define it to be a revealed dogma that the immaculate Mother of God ever
Virgin Mary, having completed the course of earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.” Our Mother’s
Assumption is honoured as the fourth Glorious Mystery in the Holy Rosary.
Mass of Thanksgiving for the canonisation: St Theresa of Kolcutta, on Monday 5th September at St Joseph’s Cathedral. Holy
Hour with Rosary & Confession-5.45pm, Holy Mass at 7pm followed by veneration of the relic of St Theresa of Kolcutta.

Mother Teresa of Calcutta on the day before her canonisation. If you have a special memory of Mother Teresa which you would
like to share, please get in touch as soon as possible. If you’re a poet, song-writer, choir member or musician we’d love to hear
from you also. Our cameras will be in over 10 different Catholic Cathedrals and Parish locations throughout the UK and Eire. The
day will be filled with 3 Masses, choirs, and guests all focusing on the life and legacy of Mother Teresa. Bishops, Priests and
special guests who met Mother Teresa will be inviting us to share these very special memories. Join us any time during the day to
watch the events on-line.
The Month of August is dedicated to devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Sacred Heart represents Christ's love
for mankind, while the Immaculate Heart of Mary represents the desire of the Blessed Virgin to bring all people to her Son. There
is no better example of the Christian life than that offered by Mary.
Please note the Change of date of Parish Feast: the Feast of St. Michael (29th September) falls on a Thursday this year, and as
this is the Titular Feast of our Parish, and it will be celebrated as a Solemnity, on the same day with the holy Mass at 7pm.
Through the intercession of St Michael the Archangel, may we all grow in love of God and of our community.
