Tribute to Leila Mishalany
The last luncheon of the 2013-2014 year was held on June 23 at
the Altadena Country Club for the purpose of installing the new LLCS
board for 2014-2015. This luncheon was dedicated to the memory of
Leila Mishalany, founder and first President of LLCS. It was a time for
celebrating Leila’s life and legacy. Leila’s children George, Randa and
Vivian Kokoszka were the honored guests as well as the Consul General
of Lebanon, Mr. Johnny Ibrahim. "
"
The new Board for 2014-2015 was sworn in by Parliamentarian
Juanita Salem, and retiring President Evelyn Nahman presented Badiha
Alwan with the official LLCS gavel. Jumana Assaf presented Evelyn with
a plaque that commemorates Evelyn’s service of two years as President
of the LLCS, as well as the President’s Pin. Ilham Nizam was awarded
the President’s Pin for her many years of dedication to the LLCS."
"
After lunch was served, a short video tribute to Leila Mishalany
was shown. Consul General Johnny Ibrahim spoke and paid tribute to
Leila. Leila Masri, as Scholarship Chair, took the podium and also paid
tribute to Leila, telling how the LLCS and the Scholarship Committee
were established. She spoke of Leila’s generosity and hospitality and
how she always saw the bright side of things. She emphasized Leila’s
commitment to family and faith, and how even at the end, she never
forgot the LLCS and the children of Lebanon. Vivian Kokoszka, Leila
Mishalany’s daughter, thanked the ladies for their support and
friendship to her mother and to their family. "
We will miss Leila terribly and as Rima Kaddo recounted, her insistence
always to: “ not forget the children of Lebanon”. "
