She continued, “Even collecting spare change can go a long
way. Giving a donation helps make a real difference to a
child’s life and it makes Nicole and me very happy knowing
that another child can benefit from a special wish.”
We would like to say a big thank you to Nicole. Your

DONATIONS TO
MAKE MEMORIES
Make a donation to help support
us through our busiest period and
help our wish families create
precious memories.
We arranged for Nicole and her family to travel over from
Northern Ireland and spend the day with the crew, finding out
about all their medical equipment.

Nicole became fascinated with doctors and nurses after
spending time in hospital. She was a huge fan of the television
series A&E, which chronicled the real-life drama at Coventry
University’s Accident and Emergency Department. She was
particularly interested in the adventures of the Warwickshire
and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Crew who also featured
in the series. So Nicole’s wish was to meet the air
ambulance crew.
Mum Adrianne told us, “The wish went above and beyond
expectation. I can still see her smile when she met the
crew and it always melts my heart. It was
just amazing and we can’t thank
Make-A-Wish enough.”
Nicole and Adrianne have stayed
in touch with Make-A-Wish since
Nicole’s wish. And Nicole has
even saved up her pocket money
to make a number of donations
to help other children have
a wish.
We were very moved when we
received a cheque for £150 and
a lovely letter from Adrianne a
few weeks ago. To date Nicole
has donated several hundred
pounds to help other children.

“ TO THIS DAY
Adrianne explained, “I always read
the Make-A-Wish newsletter out to Nicole.
And when she heard of all the types of wishes
the children wanted granting she said she wanted
to help pay for them. She wanted to give some money to
make other children as happy as she was on her wish.”
The summer months are our busiest time for granting
wishes. Hundreds of children and their families will have
their wish over the coming months.

Continuing our long relationship with Neom Luxury
Organics, the home fragrance and body care company
is offering a special ‘friends of Make-A-Wish’ discount
and promise to donate £1 to Make-A-Wish for every
product sold.
And that means we need funds to help us pay for things
like flights, accommodation, princess dresses, superhero
outfits and all the other things we need for the wishes
we’ll be granting.
Organic and natural with no chemicals, all Neom
products use only pure essential oil blends so they not
only smell lovely, but also produce therapeutic benefits.
We try to source items for free or at a discount wherever
we can. But with so many wishes to be granted, we still
have to pay for most services. And we simply could not
do that without the help of people like you.
From 15 April until 29 April, you can enjoy 10% off a
range of specially chosen products including their
award-winning Tranquillity Bath Foam with calming
lavender essential oil and the Refresh Home Candle,
an uplifting Sicilian lemon and fresh basil scent.
Please help us grant wishes by making a donation at
make-a-wish.org.uk/donate or by calling
01276 40 50 80.
If you would like to take a leaf
out of Nicole’s book and make a
donation, complete and return the
tear-off form, visit

or call us on 01276 40 50 80.

FIND OUT HOW CONNIE USED HER PARTY WISH
TO RAISE MONEY FOR MAKE-A-WISH!
Welcome to I WISH.
CONNIE MARKS END OF TREATMENT
This time we’d like to tell you
about two of our wish children.
11 year old Connie had her
wish recently, while 17 year old
Nicole had her wish back in
2011. We have been inspired
by the generosity of both girls
who have each raised money
to enable other children to have
a wish.
WITH A BANG!
Wish children and their families
are not expected to contribute
towards their or any other
wishes, so it is very touching
when children want to give
back in this way.
I hope that their efforts may
inspire you to give what you
can too.
Thank you to everyone who has
already signed up to take on a
challenge, do some fundraising
or make a donation in 2014
following our last newsletter.
We have had a record number
of people signing up to our
events so far this year.
But, with lots more wishes
coming up as we move into
our busiest time of year for
wishgranting, we need your
support to ensure we can keep
granting those wishes.
So please, if you can, spare
a little money to help our wish
children and their families
create precious memories.
Thank you for your support.
Neil Jones, Chief Executive

11 year old Connie from Birmingham has been fighting
Leukaemia since 2011.
Her treatment finished at the end of last year. She wanted to mark the occasion with a
big party to celebrate with everyone who had been there for her throughout her illness.
And for Connie a party meant two things – fireworks and trifle!
You might remember, we told you we
were about to grant Connie’s wish in
the Upcoming Wishes section of our
last newsletter. Well, thanks to money
raised by our wonderful supporters, our
wishgranting magic and a tremendous
effort by Connie’s local community, we
were recently able to make her wish
come true.

If you’re an adrenalin

Along with Connie’s friends and family,
we arranged a huge party for around
200 people. As Mum, Carrie, put it,
“The evening was just amazing and the
party would not have happened if it
weren’t for Make-A-Wish. It was a real
team effort by the community and the
charity.”

Mum Carrie said: “The wish has drawn a line
under a very hard few years. The wish was a real
celebration of Connie and how great she has
been during treatment. It was wonderful having everyone there on her wish and we will
have amazing memories to look back on. Connie is so grateful to everyone who has
been supportive over the past few years and she wanted to say thank you to them all.
Having a big party was the perfect way to do that.”
Thank you to Connie, Carrie and everyone involved with the wish.

CLOGHER VALLEY
Connie and a small group of friends
travelled in style to the party in a
stretched Hummer – with plenty of music
and fizzy pop to keep them entertained
on their journey. At the party there was
magic, face painting, circus entertainment and –
of course – a fireworks display and lots of trifle.
We were incredibly touched when Mum Carrie
said that they would like to use the party to raise
money for Make-A-Wish and the local hospital.
This was the first time a wish child has ever
raised money during their wish. It is not something
we would ever expect from our wish children so
we were truly humbled by Connie’s generosity.
