EMERGENCY TRIANGLES Make sure to display your emergency triangles anytime your bus is disabled, this will help warn drivers and reduce the chance of accident & injury. “Never talk defeat. Use words like hope, belief, faith, victory.” Norman Vincent Peale ACCIDENT FREE Brenda did a great job creating a display board indicating how many days our department has been accident free! DILIGENCE Recognition goes to all of our drivers for their continued focus on safety and reducing collisions! STATE WIDE There were 261 collisions state wide last year where the bus driver was found at fault (we did not make the list). Primary causes include: Inattention (19), failure to yield (15), following too close (8). “They know if you care” Sign observed in the kitchen at Marcus Whitman – a powerful visual and excellent “spin” on the quote – “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” Bottom line…they know if we do….and if we don’t. CAREER FAIR Tim Esteron & Matt Lonning from the shop recently participated in the Career Fair at Marcus Whitman Jr High – where they talked about careers in the automotive repair field. Tim did an outstanding job creating the display. Tim & Matt received a thank you letter from MW Principal Brian Carlson & Portfolio Specialist Ruth Hodges. CLASSROOM CURRENCY…. "It's about giving kids a tangible way of redeeming themselves and recovering from their mistakes." “It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.” Walt Disney FYI - MPG The new C2 Thomas buses seem to be averaging about 1 mile per gallon better fuel mileage than the average of similar sized buses in our fleet. EMAILED SERVICE SCHEDULE In an attempt to further improve communications – lists of scheduled maintenance are being emailed to drivers each Friday for those who wish to see them. The distribution list includes district email accounts of all drivers. You can have personal email accounts added by communicating with Bob. PAPERWORK REMINDER: Drivers are to do yellow sheets on all days that are different than a regular school day. Example: Early Out, Conference Days, Last Day of school. Don’t forget to fill out the yellow sheet on the back of your check off sheet every Tuesday also. What are you seeking? Students! Check your bus after every school. In the afternoon look for those hiders and sleepers after your last stop if possible. If your route is close to the garage, check when you park. Some drivers may find the sleeping, while they are sweeping. But if it’s pretty far out, find a safe, solid place to pull off. Make it a habit and you won’t forget. You never know what you will find! Let’s make sure we find them. You’re doing a great job!!! ‘Smiles with Scott’ In an attempt to carry on past traditions of previous directors the ‘Smiles with Scott’ meetings are being held the second Monday of each month. These meetings are held at 10:00AM in the driver’s lounge. This is intentional time I am scheduling with any drivers that want to attend, with no pre-established agenda. The discussion topics are whatever you bring to the meeting. Some of the topics discussed at our 2/8/2010 meeting were: Work on getting a current large wall map in the lounge New dry erase board for driver use in the lounge Replacement of cove base in women’s restroom Re-striping of parking lots Contacts for striping of parking areas at the individual schools – head custodians More talk about ice cubes maker in the lounge Next (Spring) driver meeting topics There is no requirement for attendance at these meetings. The intent of these meetings is to have meaningful discussions (and donuts), hopefully answer questions, and to share thoughts and ideas with the intent of making what we do every day as safe as possible and as meaningful as possible. My hope is to have this entire process take place in, and enhance our positive work environment. I look forward to seeing you there. The next ‘smiles’ is scheduled for March 8th, 2010.
