Midland Area Community
Foundation Grant Highlights
2011 Annual Report
Midland Police Department K-9
According to the Midland Police Department, our community has seen a rise in illegal
drug use and drug related crime. While in the past the Midland Police Department
was forced to seek the assistance of the State Police or other agencies when a K-9
unit was needed, they will now have a Drug Canine
Team of their own to insure a fast respone time.
Not only will the Drug Canine Team have an affect
on illegal drug use, the canine is also trained as a
tracking dog, able to assist with missing persons and
locating criminals. The Foundation provided a grant
of $20,000 toward the project, which includes a Chevy
Tahoe to transport the Drug Canine Team.
Access to Recreation
In 2009 the MACF partnered with the Chippewa Nature Center, Disability Network
of Mid-Michigan, Midland Community Center, Midland County Parks and Recreation
Department, West Midland Family Center, City of Midland, Arnold Center, Inc. and
The Arc of Midland to bring several accessible recreation opportunities to Midland.
2011 saw the installation of three new canoe and
kayak launch sites with specially designed lifts
that will enable disabled persons to move from a
wheelchair to the canoe or kayak. These sites are
located at the Farmers Market area, the Chippewa
Cabin (near Chippewa River Rd and Meridian
Rd), and Sanford Lake Park. The grand opening
will be held on June 8th, 2012.
For good. For ever.
Midland Area Community
Foundation Projects
2011 Annual Report
The Midland Area Community Foundation helps with several
projects each year to improve our community.
Santa House Renovation Project
Santa loves his visit to Midland each year, but we recieved word that in order
to visit with so many children, some updates were needed! Beginning in
September 2011, the Midland Area Community Foundation started raising
funds for the Santa House Renovation Project. Our supportive community
heard the call and has raised over $110,000
already!
Construction is scheduled to begin in the
Spring of 2012, and will include an updated
computer for the Glockenspiel, a new roof,
improved landscaping, a walkway, carpet
and new windows. Best of all, new restroom
facilities will be installed!
The Santa House is a project that the Midland Area Community Foundation
is proud to present each year. With your continued support Santa will be
able to welcome families during the 2012 holiday season with a renovated
Santa House.
For good. For ever.

President & CEO Jan McGuire to Retire
On June 1st, 2012 we will say goodbye to our President & CEO Jan
McGuire. Jan has served for over five years
and will be greatly missed. During her tenure
the Foundation surpassed 400 available
managed funds and moved into our permanent
home at 76 Ashman Circle, allowing room for
expansion to help manage the growth. We
wish Jan a happy retirement and all the best
in her future endeavors.
