The Funniest Maths Teacher Sings
his way to the Brighton Fringe
Owen Elton brings his charming feast of comedy to the Brighton Fringe for the first
time in 2016. Armed only with a piano and several hats, his riotous rhymes leave
delighted audiences in stitches. He divulges half-truth and misinformation in original
song tackling such diverse topics as the origin of collective nouns, the trials of male
patterned baldness, devotion to flat-pack furniture and, of course, the comparative
comic properties of numbers. This free, non-ticketed performance takes place in the
Hobgoblin at 10pm each night from Sunday 29th May to Thursday 2nd June.

Owen Elton has been teaching maths for thirteen years and is the author of the
popular blog, matheminutes. He is also a classical composer and comic songwriter.
His Sonata for Bass Clarinet and Piano has proved popular amongst concert-goers
and opens the latest disc by renowned German clarinetist, Balthasar Hens. Earlier
this year, a video of Owen singing The Jeremy Hunt Song was played on a giant
screen at a BMA rally in London and greeted with roars of laughter from the gathered
junior doctors. Having thrilled audiences at the Guildford Fringe for two years, his
show, The Funniest Number, which draws together a dozen of his most hilarious
songs, now makes its Brighton debut.
