Sharing the Excitement Issue: February 2013 Form 4A News!!! Vol: The highlight of the week was the Early Years Sports Fiesta wherein the tiny tots had a gala time along with their parents. There was an ISW Competition (Internet Safety Week Competition) in which Mitakshi Mathur of 4A stood 1st.The competition was based on Internet Safety and she drew a beautiful poster along with a slogan on it. In this week’s issue: Welcome note from the teacher Unit of Inquiry Math Language Arts PE Music Featured work Reminders Photo gallery UNIT OF INQUIRY After the students researched on the 2nd Line of Inquiry - ‘How energy is used (transformation)’, they went ahead with the Formative Assessment in which the students did video recordings of energy transformations at home and in school. The students were very excited to video record each other on iPads and they went around the whole school, observing and recording along with their partners. They did the same at home and came out with beautiful results which were shown in the class. They later assessed each other using a Peer Assessment Web chart. The students were introduced to the 3 rd Line of Inquiry, ‘Sustainable energy practices’ by Miss Gayatri, the Science teacher from the Middle School. She spoke about how energy can be conserved and then the students did extensive research on it. This week in maths, the students were introduced to Tessellations and how it is used in our daily life: from honey combs, to checkers, to spider webs, to walls, patios and pavements. The students were shown a ppt and then they made their own tessellation patterns. They understood the concept of how it is made up of only regular polygons and that different geometric shapes can be used to create tessellations. The students also identified different tessellation patterns seen in and around the school. There was Math integration with our ongoing Unit of InquiryEnergy where the students were introduced to Negative Numbers and were very excited to see how they are used in our daily life, right from measuring temperature to depicting debt. The week came to end with the Summative Assessment on Shapes. In Language the students made funny Limericks on various forms of Energy and were introduced to another form of Poetry called Haiku, through which they could clearly differentiate between the two types of poetry. The students had an exciting time creating their own Haiku poetry and framing it on their ‘Poet –Tree’. Hindi- Beginner’s Hindi-This week the students learnt new words in Hindi through an activity. They coloured the picture and then they explained about the picture through play. Students were able to develop their verbal communication skills. They explained names of colours also in Hindi. They were introduced to ब alphabet with sentence making through activity. (बाग , बादल, बंदर ) Regular Hindi-The children gave oral presentation based on the lesson, ‘ जब धरती कााँपी’ in various groups in the form of role play, news report, poetry. They also did some written exercises based on the lesson. They were also introduced to ‘कारक चिह्न’ i.e. की, में , पर, के ललए etc. and also used these words in framing sentences. I C T- This week, the students took part in an animated video making competition. As the whole previous week the focus was on Internet Safety, they had to create short animated movies on the same topic. They all used Go Animate, which is a fun and easy to use online application. Physical Education: TRACK & FIELD ON YOUR MARKS – GET SET – GO TRACK EVENTS: RELAY & SPRINTS LONG JUMP THROW The Student of the week is awarded to Paarth and Mitakshi. Paarth made a beautiful Haiku Poem and Mitakshi won the Slogan Making Competition .
