FROM YOUR
DIRECTOR of MISSIONS
It’s that time again! The Annual Meeting of Stone Association of Southern
Baptists will be meeting for the 151st
time. We will be meeting at Stevens
Street Baptist Church beginning at 3:00
PM and ending at 6:00 PM We will
begin at 3:00 PM with the business portion of the meeting. This will be followed by reports of local and state ministries. At 5:00 PM, Dr. Scott Parkison
will bring the Annual Sermon. This year
we will not have the fellowship meal.
Plan to do this on your own with some
friends or family or both.
This time of year gets very crowded
with activities. Thanksgiving and
Christmas are just ahead. It is a good
time and hopefully an enjoyable time.
Try and keep the main things in the right
order. Thanksgiving for what the Lord
has done this past year is appropriate.
The greatest gift of Jesus crowns the
season followed closely with happy family time. I know it’s just October, but the
way time flies, it will be here almost
tomorrow.
See you on the 23rd at Stevens Street.

Somewhere there is morning.
Surely the sun must rise
To cause a squenching, squinting
Of all the earth’s glad eyes.
Darkness beacons daily.
Daylight fades so fast.
Darkness claims its victory
When day’s last gleam is past.
Yet, somewhere there is morning.
Surely the sun must rise
To greet us all with laughter
And put stars back in our eyes.

Baptist History #16 Middle Colonies Baptists
In January 1688, Elias Keach formed the
Pennepek church with twelve members; this was
the first surviving Baptist church in the Middle
Colonies. It is still active in Lower Dublin, a
suburb of Philadelphia. Keach was a son of the
London Baptist pastor, Benjamin Keach. Young
Keach arrived in America in 1687, not yet a professing Christian. He was described as an exceedingly wild spark and a “stranger to divine
grace.” For whatever motive, he dressed like a
clergyman, wearing a “band,” and was invited to
preach at a Baptist gathering near Philadelphia.
He had heard his father often enough that giving
a sermon was no great problem. However, in the
middle of his sermon Keach was seized by the
enormity of his sin. He stopped speaking and
began to tremble. Keach’s hearers thought some
illness had come upon him. He confessed his
deception and begged their forgiveness. He was
also soundly converted –under his own preaching! He later received baptism from Elder Dungan (whom we talked about last month) at Cold
Spring.
The conversion of Keach was a great blessing
to Baptist work in the Middle Colonies. He
brought youth, vigor, dynamism and organizational skill to the work. He represented the most
progressive elements in English Baptist life. He
was not involved in the divisive controversies of
the time which eroded Baptist strength and hampered growth. Above all, he brought vigorous
evangelistic outreach, preaching throughout the
area and establishing several new churches.
Keach served as pastor of Pennepek but did not
confine his preaching to that vicinity. Soon he
had baptized converts in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. These converts regarded themselves as
members of the Pennepek church but because of
the distance worshipped separately. However,
each quarter the entire fellowship would assemble at one of these outposts for preaching, fellowship, and receiving the Lord’s Supper. These
were called Quarterly Meetings, but because they
came to each outpost only about once a year the
people began to call them the Annual Meeting.
These informal meetings became the nucleus of
the Philadelphia Baptist Association. Over the
years these preaching points became churches as
follows: Picataway (1689), Middleton (N.J.,
1688), Cohansy (N.J. 1687). Baptists met for
worship in Philadelphia as early as 1687 but the
church was not organized until 1698. The first
surviving association formed in the Middle Colonies in 1707, a confession of faith was adopted in
1742 and they established a Baptist college in
1764.

BANGHAM HEIGHTS
The choir and children are busy preparing for the upcoming Christmas program.
The Food & Faith Pantry served 46 families, prepared 61boxes of food and had 9
committee members and 3 volunteers that
served in September. The pantry is open
the first and third Thursday of each month
from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. They will be taking
names for Thanksgiving boxes soon. If you
know of anyone that would like to receive
a Thanksgiving Food Box, have them to
call the pantry at 528-8885.
The Prayer Card Ministry sent out 85
cards of encouragement in September.
We had 7 children and 5 adults to go to
the Children in Action JAM on Saturday,
October 1. We collected $1,079.00 for the
Golden Offering for Tennessee Missions.
On Sunday, October 9, World Hunger Sunday, we collected money for the Children’s
Backpack Food Ministry. The missions
groups are collecting toilet paper and paper
towels for the Genesis House now through
Wednesday, October 19. On that day the
director of the Genesis House will be our
guest speaker. On Wednesday, October 12,
Pastor Carless, missionary from Brazil,
will be the guest speaker. We have 5 people going to Reynosa, Mexico on a mission
trip in November and will be taking a Love
Offering to help with their ministry in
Mexico on Sunday, November 6. The ladies will be cooking pasta for Soul Food
Ministry at the BCM on Thursday, October
27.
Everyone is invited to come to the Harvest Festival on Monday, October 31, starting at 6:00 p.m. We will have a soup and
chili supper and Trunk “R” Treat for the
children. Anyone may dress up in a friendly costume.
Please continue to pray for our congregation. Many of our members have lost loved
ones in September. J.B. Davidson passed
away on Saturday, September 24. He had
been a member a Bangham Heights for
many years and will be deeply missed.
Please be in prayer for guidance for our
church and pastoral search committee.

DODSON BRANCH
We recognize the birth of Wade and Amber
Draper's cute baby boy, John Westin Roy
Draper.
During the month of September our Pastor
began a series of sermons from the 'Book of
Ruth’. He has shown that circumstances can
bring time of decisions to occur. The family, as
told at the first of the Book of Ruth, moved into
a different country. The father of the family
died. Later the two sons died. The mother of
the family next decided to return to their
original country. Then one of the daughters-inlaw stayed in her own country, but the other
daughter-in-law decided to stay with her mother-in-law, Naomi. Naomi told the people in
Bethlehem as they arrived, "call me Mara".
(bitter) We see from the messages that a choice
can be made to become bitter about what happens, or prayerfully trust God. God can and
will bring good through trusting HIM. Think
about Ruth and Boaz being in the ancestry of
the Lord Jesus Christ!
We again thank Bro. Roy Allen and his wife
Jeanette being with us one Sunday morning
during the month of September. Jeanette again
sang a blessed message in song. Bro Roy Allen's Bible message was from Amos 4. 'Does
your life agree with God?' God was against the
people's behaviors of oppressing the poor and
crushing the needy. Troubles have come upon
the people ... shortage of food and crops, lack
of rain in places and abundance of rain in places. Yet people were not repenting. Everyone
return unto the Lord God and His righteous
ways; and The God of hosts is His name.
VOLUME XXXIV ISSUE 10
October 23rd is our Fall Homecoming 2016
during our 11:00 AM service. Mrs. Janise
Schopieray and Mrs. Kathy Webb are leaders in getting the invitation to everyone to
attend this 'special day at Dodson Branch
Southern Baptist Church'. There is a meal
following this morning service, also.
We are still supporting Dr. Franklin Graham with his Decision America Prayer
Rally Tour 2016. He and his team are finishing visiting all 50 states October 13th in
Raleigh, North Carolina. Their Decision
Magazine during September and October
are presenting the theme ' The Race for
America's Future'. If we obey God and His
laws then this leads to life and liberty. "If a
ruler listens to falsehood, all his officials
will be wicked." Proverbs 29:12. Praise the
Lord for the Tour 2016 Prayer Rallies to
turn people toward God!

EASTWOOD
This Month's Food for Thought:
Be the reason that someone believes in the
goodness of people.
As we are currently between pastors,
we'll take this month's submission as a
method of, hopefully, brightening everyone's day with a few of our favorite quips.
Show and Tell: A kindergarten teacher
gave her class a "show and tell" assignment.
Each student was instructed to bring an
object that represented their religion and
share it with the rest of the class. The first
student got up in front of the class and said,
“My name is Benjamin. I am Jewish and
this is a Star of David.” The next child
stood and said, “My name is Mary. I'm a
Catholic and this is a Rosary.” Finally, the
third student walked to the front of the class
and said, “My name is Tommy. I am a Baptist and this is a green bean casserole.”
Retirement: For more than 40 years, my
grandfather worked long hours at his job, so
I was more than curious about the way he
filled his days after retirement. When asked,
he simply smiled, “Well, I get up in the
mornings with nothing to do and by the
time I go to bed at night I usually have most
of it done!”
STONE TABLET
The Wedding: A precious little boy was in a
relative's wedding. As he was coming down
the aisle he would take two steps, stop, and
turn to the crowd. While facing the crowd, he
would put his little hands up like claws and
roar. And so it went: step, step, ROAR…step,
step, ROAR - all the way down the aisle. As
you can imagine, the congregation was in near
tears from laughing by the time the child
reached the front of the church. Later, when
asked what he was doing, the child proudly
announced, "I was being the Ring Bear!”
Welcome to the U.S. Post Office: There was
a very gracious lady who was mailing an old
family Bible to her brother in another part of
the country. "Is there anything breakable in
here?" asked the postal clerk. "Only the Ten
Commandments." answered the lady.
GAINESBORO FBC
Christ’s Blessings Abound for All!
Gary Winningham of Pigeon Forge, formerly
of Algood, sang in our church during the
month of September. It was a night of praising
God in song. We were blessed.
Our Pastor Kelly had a heart attack on September 20th. By the grace of God and fast
acting paramedics, doctors, and nurses, Kelly
received a stent and no permanent damage to
his heart. Praise God! A prayer chain was
started in a few minutes after the attack. God
was with Bro. Kelly during the attack; God
was with his family through the storm. As bad
as the situation love, hope, joy, and peace were
abounding! God’s peace will see you through
the storms and struggles of life! Look to Jesus
in all ways.
What do people do that do not walk with
Jesus? What do people do, when they don’t
know Jesus?
Dr. Joe Wiles preached for Bro. Kelly on
September 25th. He challenged our congregation to invite at least 5 families to church between September 25, 2016 and December 31,
2016. At least two people from our congregation took the challenge the very next week.
Out of 7 or 8 families invited, 6 families came
on October 2. A total of 14 people came to
church just because we ask! We have not,
because we ask not! Matthew 7:7 says, “Ask
and it will be given to you; seek and you will
find; knock and the door will be opened to
you.” The Word of God is given to us to live
by...second by second… Believe me...every
second counts! This past month our church
family has witnessed first hand the Power of
God, the Power of Miracles, the Power of
Prayer, God’s unconditional love, the Hope of
God, and Joy in His Presence. God is in the
blessing business! Praise Him.
We will have an old-fashioned singing on
October 30th from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM. You
are welcome!

that afternoon. We’re doing hands-on missions
to bless the lives of children across the globe,
right here in our town.
For more information, contact the associational
office at 526-4655. If you want to sponsor a
booth at the missions fair, contact me at 2523096. And remember we can do more for the
Kingdom!
