9/24/14 “Good poetry and successful revolution change lives. And you cannot compose a good poem or wage a revolution without changing consciousness. And you cannot alter consciousness unless you attack the language that you share with your enemies and invent a new language you share with you allies.” TED 467 Secondary Teaching Methods Dr. Jeff Sapp ~June Jordan, Poet and Essayist~ A Poem in Two Voices Poems for two voices are to be read by two readers at the same time. One reader takes the left side of the poem and the other reader takes the right side. The poems are read from top to bottom with lines at the same level being read together. As students brainstorm, have them make lists of contrasting verbs. Both Readers Differentiating Instruction Ideas: Students can write these poems alone or in pairs. If students do write them alone, they can partner up after the poems are written and help each other revise and perform their poetry.
