When you participate in Tampa Electric’s Renewable Energy program, you’re
joining others who support the use of cleaner renewable sources like the sun
and biomass (plant materials) to produce electricity.
Our program gives you the opportunity to purchase renewable energy in
200-kilowatt-hour “blocks” at $5 each per month.
The benefits
Beneficial to the environment, renewable energy is electricity produced from
cleaner sources including the sun, wind, biomass, and water. Traditional
methods of electricity generation typically rely on non-renewable fuel
sources called fossil fuels. Renewable energy programs help to preserve our
natural resources by using renewable fuel sources to generate the electricity
to use in your home and in your workplace.

The results can be measured
Over the course of just one year, an investment in renewable energy will
produce a positive environmental impact. Become a business partner at the
level of your choice:
Emerald (requires a minimum purchase of 50 blocks)
If 50 blocks are purchased (10,000 kilowatt-hours) $250 per month:
• Offset 100 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
• Provide enough electricity to power 10 average-size homes.
• Remove more than 12 cars from the road for a year.
• Reduce the same amount of carbon dioxide as planting more than 23 acres
of trees.

Jade (purchase 20 to 49 blocks)
If 20 blocks are purchased (4,000 kilowatt-hours) $100 per month:
• Offset 40 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
• Provide enough electricity to power four average-size homes.
• Remove the equivalent of five cars from the road for a year.
If 5 blocks are purchased (1,000 kilowatt-hours) $25 per month:
• Offset 10 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
• Provide enough electricity to power 1 average-size home.
• Remove the equivalent of a car from the road for a year.
• Reduce the same amount of carbon dioxide as planting more than two
acres of trees.

Solar in the community
Solar panels produce electricity from the sun’s rays. Installing solar panels
throughout the community is just one example of how Tampa Electric invests
in renewable energy sources. Your participation in the Renewable Energy
program will help support the installation of additional systems. The solar
panel systems pictured on this sheet provide a portion of the electricity used
