Contemporary lyrical Workshops

We are excited to announce this year’s CONTEMPORARY LYRICAL WORKSHOPS!
You are being invited to participate in these special classes as an extension of your ballet & jazz
training. Contemporary Lyrical Jazz is a dance form that combines ballet, jazz and modern dance
techniques to express the lyrics and/or feelings in music. It is also called “Contemporary” on TV
shows such as So You Think You Can Dance. While we often incorporate contemporary lyrical
exercises and movements in our weekly jazz classes and choreography, this workshop will provide
students the opportunity to explore this dance form in greater depth. We do not offer a regular
class on the schedule for lyrical, as we feel that it is best taught in a workshop setting by learning
combinations. The base for lyrical dancing is jazz and ballet technique that can be improved in our
regular classes. Once we have built the foundation of our technique, we can now explore
contemporary lyrical movement through a workshop setting.
This workshop will run for 8 weeks, starting September 28 -29
Ending by November 30 - December 1
NOTE: No workshops on October 19 - 20 and October 26 - 27
as members of our staff & school will be attending Dance Conventions on those dates.
(Everyone is welcome to attend the conventions - registration forms will be handed out soon)
