Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do I need a library card to check out eBooks and audios? Yes, you need your Ohio
Township Public Library System patron card to check out any material from OTPLS. To
access Ohio Township Digital Library, you will need your library barcode number and
your account password. When you applied for a library card, your account was given a
four digit pin number for your password (last four digits of your phone number).
2. Do I need to pay my fine before I can check out an eBook? Yes, you will not be able
to log into the Ohio Township Digital Library if your registration is expired or your
account has fines/fees accrued. You can update and pay fees at any of the three
libraries’ circulation desks.
3. What should I do if an item did not download correctly? From the Ohio Township
Digital Library page, click "My Digital Account" at the upper left, then click "My
Bookshelf." This shows the digital items you have checked out and allows you to
download them again in case you experienced problems on your first attempt. You
must be signed into your account.
4. I cannot locate my eBook. Did it download? Different eReaders store your OTPLS
eBooks in different locations.
• For Nook: look in "My Documents."
• For Nook Color: look in Library> My Files> Digital Editions
5. How do I return my audiobook before it it due? You cannot return audiobooks early
so keep that in mind when choosing the length of time you want to check it out—14 days
versus 21 days.
6. For the Pandigital reader, you must download a firmware update first. Go to
www.pandigital.net/downloads to begin. Also for Pandigital users, if you do not see the
"Adobe eBooks" folder, you may need to do a search to locate the eBook on your
reader.
7. Use the Ohio Township Digital Library’s HELP sections because a lot of answers are
found on these pages. On the left-hand side of the digital library page, click on the box
“Getting Started” and pick the link that fits your needs.

Adobe Digital Editions
Installation and Set Up
Adobe Digital Editions is the software used to transfer eBooks checked out from the
Ohio Township Public Library System’s website onto your eReader. This guide will
explain how to properly install and set up Adobe Digital Editions so that you can
successfully begin reading your OTPLS eBooks on your computer or a dedicated
eReader device such as Nook, Sony, Kobo, etc.
Step 1: Establish an Adobe ID

Go to www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions. Click on "Sign In" at the upper
right corner of the page.
On the Sign In page, click the yellow button on the left labeled "Create an Adobe
Account."
Fill in the required information to complete the registration form and click
"Continue.”
You should see a message indicating whether your registration was successful.
Step 2: Download and Install Adobe Digital Editions

Return to www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions and click the brown
button labeled "Install." Click Install and then click "Yes" to allow the
installer to run.
If you are asked whether you want to Run or Save the file, select Run.
After the download completes and the installer begins to run, click "I
Agree" to accept terms and conditions.
On the "Setup Assistant" screen, click "Continue."
On the next screen, you will be given a choice whether or not to authorize
the computer.
Select "Authorize Computer" and enter your Adobe I D and password from
Step 1.
Click "Activate."
Once the installation is complete, Adobe Digital Editions will open in the Library view.
You are now ready to begin downloading and transferring eBooks.

When you connect your eReader to Adobe Digital Editions for the first time, it will
ask if you would like to authorize the device to your Adobe ID. Select “Yes.”

Borrowing OTPLS eBooks with your Nook/Nook Color
Step 1: Install Adobe Digital Editions on your computer

Before you can transfer files from your computer to your eReader, you will need to install
Adobe Digital Editions and establish an Adobe ID.
Follow the instructions on the OTPLS handout Adobe Digital Editions – Installation and Set
Up
Step 2: Checking out eBooks and downloading them to your computer
• Start by visiting our digital catalog and clicking “Audio & eBooks” under the main menu of our
library website or type http://otpls.lib.overdrive.com into your browser.
• Sign into your digital library account using your library card number and password.
• Search for a particular title or browse by category
• When you find a title you would like to check out, click "Add to Cart" then click "Proceed to
Checkout" when you are finished. Select the checkout period (7, 14, or 21 days) and click
"Confirm checkout."
• *Click the "Download" button. When the eBook finishes downloading, it should automatically
open in Adobe Digital Editions. If not, you may have to select Adobe Digital Editions from the
list of programs to "open with" in the download box.
*If the initial download fails or you need to access your checked out eBooks for any reason, you may do
so by clicking on the yellow "My Digital Account" tab at the top right of the page. "My Bookshelf' will show
the items you have checked out along with download links.
Step 3: Transferring the ebooks from your computer to your reader

If Adobe Digital Editions opens the book in the “Reading View,” switch to “Library View” by clicking
the Library View button at the far upper left corner.
• Connect your eReader to your computer using the device’s supplied USB cord.
• On the list area to the left in Adobe Digital Editions, below “All Items," "Borrowed Items," etc., you
should see an icon for your eReader. In the library area on the right side in Adobe Digital
Editions, you should see the eBook title or icon you just checked out. Click on the icon or title for
your eBook and drag it to your eReader name or icon on the left side of the screen. (You should
see a green plus sign when it is positioned correctly, and you may release the mouse button.)
This will complete the transfer of the eBook to your eReader.
When you disconnect your eReader, you should now be able to open the book in your eReader's library.
Locating the eBook in Nook Color
On the Nook Color eReaders, eBooks checked out from the library do not appear in the normal
"Bookshelf' area. To locate these files on the eReader, press the upward pointing arrow at the bottom
area of the screen then press "Library." In the library, press "My Files." You should now see the OTPLS
eBook you checked out within this area.

Borrowing OTPLS eBooks with your KINDLE
-No software to download and no USB cable required-
What you will need:

Amazon Kindle, or a device with the Kindle app
A Wi-Fi (wireless internet) connection
Your Amazon username and password
Your OTPLS library card number and password (four digit pin number)
Step 1: Find and check out Kindle books on our website: www.ohio.lib.in.us

Start by visiting our digital catalog and clicking “Audio & eBooks” under the main menu
of our library website or type http://otpls.lib.overdrive.com into your browser.
Search for a particular title or browse by category but make sure it lists a Kindle book.
When you find the Kindle book you want, click “add to cart.”
If you are finished browsing, go to the next screen and click “proceed to checkout.”
Select the lending period you desire and click “confirm checkout.”
At the download page, click “Get for Kindle.”
Step 2: Get the eBook through your Amazon account

You are directed to Amazon’s website (amazon.com) to finish your check out. You will need to
sign in with your Amazon username and password if you are not already signed into your account.
Select the desired device under “Deliver to,” and click “Get library book”
If your Kindle device is connected to a Wi-Fi network, it will automatically download the eBook.
Turn the Kindle on and push the Home Button.
To Return an eBook Early:
Your OTPLS Kindle eBooks will automatically be returned when the loan period expires. However, if you
wish to return an eBook early, you may do so through your Amazon Account.

Go to Amazon.com and log into your account. Go to the “Manage Your Kindle” page (under Shop
All Departments>Kindle>Manage Your Kindle).
Click “Actions” for the library title you wish to return; select “Return this book” from the options.

eBooks and Audiobooks
using the OverDrive Mobile App
(for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Android phone and tablet, and Windows 7 phone)
Checking out OTPLS eBooks and audiobooks using
your mobile device is easy with the free OverDrive app!
1. Go to your device’s app store or app market and download the OverDrive Media
Console app. You can find it by typing “Overdrive” in the search field. Install and then
open the app.
2. You will need to create an Adobe ID. You can do this for free at
www.adobe.com/membership or use the link from the app. Use the ID and password to
authorize the app. (You should only need to do this once to set up.)
3. To access our OTPLS digital catalog from the app, you can touch the “Get Books +”
button at the top then select the country, state, city, and Ohio Township Public Library
System. OTPLS’ mobile site will then be added to the list of websites in the app’s “Get
Books” list.
4. OR, you can simply open your browser and go to www.otpls.lib.overdrive.com to access
the OTPLS digital library. We recommend saving this page in your bookmarks or to your
home screen.
5. Find the eBook or audiobook you want by browsing or searching. Only compatible
formats (EPUB eBooks and MP3 audiobooks) will appear so there is no need to worry
about whether a title will work on your device.
6. When you find a title you want, touch it then tap “Add to Cart” and then “Proceed to
Checkout.” Enter your library card number, confirm the checkout, and tap “Download.”
7. The OverDrive app will open, and the title will appear in the Library. You should be
prompted to enter your Adobe ID and Password (see Step 1). Tap “Download” to
download the book and begin reading or listening.
8. To return an eBook early, delete the eBook (swipe across the title or click “Edit” at the
top). When you delete, it will give you the choice to return the borrowed item.
Remember that audiobooks cannot be returned early.
