February 2017
The mission of Inwood Christian School is to provide an atmosphere in which each unique child of God is
challenged both academically and Biblically to live as a Christian, serving Him in all areas of life.
FROM THE ICS OFFICE
The theme for February is I Am Author
of our Faith, and Hebrews 12:2, “Fix your
eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter
of faith,” is our theme verse for February.

Jesus who endured great hostility on the
cross for us.

SCRIP
$crip has been enjoying another very
successful year with the pay-out date on
April 1.
There are three more order dates—
February 27, March 13, and March 27—before the $crip
pay-out. Orders are due at noon on each of these dates.
You may order online at shopwithscrip.com or an order
form may be found on the ICS website under the support
tab.
$crip is a great way to financially support ICS as well
as helping you pay your tuition for SonLight Preschool,
Inwood Christian School, Western Christian High School,
and Sioux Falls Christian School. You do not need to
have a child in school to participate. You can “bank”
money for future students, help out your grandchildren,
choose any family to support, or give directly to school.
Thank you for supporting ICS $crip program.

SOCCER COACH NEEDED
ICS is in need of a soccer coach for this spring.
Practice begins the end of March and ends the middle
of May. All practices and games are after school. We
will also need soccer refs for the home soccer games
during April and May. If you would be willing to coach
or ref, please contact Mrs. Pieper at 712-753-4541.
HAPPENINGS AT INWOOD CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
Dietitian Visit
Astronaut Food
After creating a menu for astronauts on a
space mission, the 7th & 8th graders got to
actually try some freeze-dried space food—
everything from peaches to ice cream. The
students decided they prefer normal earth
food!
As part of our Health Literacy,
the students at ICS were treated
to a talk and demonstration by
Kandace Brands, a dietitian at
Avera. Kandace talked to the students and staff about our bodies
being the temple of the Holy Spirit
and our responsibility to take care
of them. She shared information
about the effects of too much sugar and lack of enough
fruits and vegetables. Kandace made a healthy fruit and
vegetable smoothie for all the students to try! Most of
them agreed it was delicious, and they would never had
known there was spinach in it, if we had not seen her put
it in there! Thanks, Kandace, for sharing your expertise
with us!
Third/Fourth Graders Assist Kindergarteners
One of the great things about ICS is that the older and
younger students have the opportunity to work together frequently, whether that be at recess, in accountability groups, or
in the classroom. The third and fourth graders were able to
teach the kindergarten class how to use an app called PicCollage to spice up their informational writing projects. They
turned out great!
1st & 2nd Graders Make Dioramas
The first and second graders have been studying about
animals. Each student chose an animal to research. After
writing their reports, they presented them to their classmates. They also built a diorama showing the habitat of
their animal.
