WHAT TO DO
1. Draw an outline of Mickey Mouse’s head on the board. Inside the head write the words
Paris, Orlando, Los Angeles, Hong Kong. Under the head write the following caption:
“1992-2012 Share the magic”. Ask students to guess what all of these have in common.
Give them copies of the first activity page and ask them to read the introduction to check.
2. Ask the students if they have ever been to a theme park. What words do they associate
with theme parks? In pairs, students complete the adjectives on the activity page. Check
answers.
3. Tell students that in the next activity, they are going to role play the people in the
pictures. Pre teach the following expressions: I feel sick, I’m scared.
Now ask students to look at the dialogues. Tell them to read each dialogue and match it
to one of the pictures 1 to 5. Check answers as a class and read out the dialogues, going
over pronunciation.
4. Ask students to work in pairs. Tell them choose one of the dialogues. Give them three
minutes to try and memorise the dialogue. Then ask them to cover the dialogues and say
them, only looking at the photos. When they have finished, ask pairs to create a similar
dialogue to go with photo 6 or 7. Circulate and help pairs, then ask them to present their
new dialogues to the class.
5. Write the following questions on the board.
How often do you go to theme parks?
What theme parks do you know?
What’s the best part of a theme park and what’s the worst?
Ask students to ask and answer the questions, then do some feedback on this as a class.
6. Explain that now they are going to have a chance to design their own theme park. Give
students copies of the next activity page and ask them to tread the information about
imagineers. Now put the students into small groups (of 3 or 4). Tell them to create a new
themed section for Disneyland Paris. They should give their section a name and complete
the brief description of it. They can also include a picture or draw their ideas on the map.
Circulate and help groups as needed.
7. Once groups have finished, have each group present their theme park to the rest of the
class. Who are the best imagineers in the class?

create a theme park
This month Disneyland Paris is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Construction started on the theme park in 1988 and it
opened to the public on April 12, 1992. After a disappointing start, the park changed its name from EuroDisney to
Disneyland Paris in 1994. In the years that followed, new rides including Space Mountain were opened, and a second
park was opened. In 2008, Disneyland Paris became the most visited tourist destination in Europe, and last year it
welcomed its 250 millionth visitor.

Look at the pictures above of a day at
Disneyland. What are the people
saying in the pictures? Match the

are at Disneyland for the day and
role-play the conversations with a
partner.

Imagineers of the future
Imagineer is the Disney name for a person who creates the rides and attractions at
theme parks. The first imagineers made rides that reflected the world of Disney’s
cartoon characters. Imagineers today need to have a great imagination. Each new
roller coaster needs to be taller, faster and more exciting than the one before. Each new building needs to be
more exotic and more fantastic than the one before.
Be an imagineer
Look at the map above. Imagine you
are a part of a team of imagineers.
Disney wants you to design for a new
theme area for Disneyland Paris.
What is its name? What do you want to
have there? Write your ideas for your
new area of Disneyland on the right.
You can draw a picture of your idea in
the space above. Present your ideas to
the rest of the class. Who are the best
imagineers?
