OCTOBER 25
PABLO PICASSO
(1881-1973)
This time in Picasso’s life was called
his Blue Period. Even his paintings
were done mostly in blues, greens,
and grays. These were sad colors, not
bright, happy colors.
Finally, people began to buy
Picasso’s paintings, and he became
happier. His happiness showed in his
paintings. Picasso began painting in
happy colors like pinks and reds. This
period in Picasso’s life became known
as his Rose Period.
Picasso also helped develop a
new style of painting. It was called
Cubism. In this type of modern art,
he used materials such as newspaper
clippings and shapes such as triangles
and rectangles.
When Pablo Picasso died in 1973,
he was worth about $250 million.
On October 25, 1881, in the
country of Spain, one of the most
famous painters of the 1900s was
born. His name was Pablo Picasso.
Not only was Picasso a great painter,
he was also a sculptor.
When Picasso was very young,
he showed signs of becoming a great
artist.Picasso’s father was an artist,and
he spent time teaching his son how
to draw. Before long, Picasso’s father
knew that his son would be a better
artist than he was. When Picasso was
a young man, he traveled to Paris,
France, to be with other young artists
and writers. At first, Picasso was sad,
hungry, and cold because he could not
sell his paintings. There were times
when he was so cold and hungry,
he would have to burn some of his
drawings just to keep warm.
