The Children’s Specialty Center nurses from The
University of Vermont Children’s Hospital invite you to
join us for a day of presentations on the challenges of
caring for the health needs of children who receive acute
and chronic medical care while in school and community
settings.
The content of this course is applicable to school and
community nurses caring for children who receive inhospital and outpatient medical care while attending
school. The knowledge you gain from attending this
conference will enhance the value of the work that you
do on behalf of your student population with medical
health needs.

The University of Vermont Children’s Hospital
Emily will explore an overview of cystic fibrosis as a multi
system disease. She will identify different ways that cystic
fibrosis affects home life and how that might transcend into the
class room, including accommodations to improve supports for
the student and minimize barriers to learning. Christine will
discuss the increased rate of anxiety and depression in students
with CF and the ways schools may be able to support both
medical and emotional needs while in the school environment.
Kevin Grealis
Corporal, S. Burlington Police Dept., Youth Services Division
Kevin will be providing a presentation on social media and how
it pertains to people who work in helping professions with youth.
Topics covered will include an overview of current social media
trends, providing resources to youth and parents who report
negative behavior involving social media, and considerations for
maintaining our own social media profiles.
