WHY WE CUBE CONSIGNMENTS Every Truck, Aircraft and Ship measures its carrying capacity in two ways – by cubic volume and dead weight. If you compare the volume of a tonne of feathers to a tonne of lead it is obvious that the feathers will take up much more space. Accordingly, the only way that high volume freight can be carried is to cube the freight using the industry standard in order to obtain a dead weight cubic kilogram equivalent. The Industry Standards Are: * Australian Road Freight 250 kilograms per m3 * Australian Air Freight 250 kilograms per m3 * International Air Freight 167 kilograms per m3 * Sea Freight 1000 kilograms per m3 Calculation: Step 1. Establish the length, Width and Height in centimetres (ie) Length = 150cm Width = 45cm Height = 85 cm Step 2. Calculate the Cubic Meterage = 1.50 x 0.45 x 0.85 = 0.57375 m3 Step 3. Calculate the Cubic Weight Equivalent = multiply 0.57375 x the applicable industry standard for your mode of transport (ie) For Australian Road Freight = 0.57375 x 250 = 143.4375 kg Total Chargeable Weight 144 kilograms (Always Round Up) How We Cube Unusual Items: Uncrated Machinery is measured to all extremities and then to the ceiling of the truck. Ie. L 130cm x W 0.90cm x H 120cm would be calculated as: 1.3 x 0.90 x 2.8 High (2.8 being the height of the truck. For more information on cubic calculations please call us: 02-8787-0777
