Campus Worship Kicks Off
With 120 students, faculty, and
staff in attendance, the first
Campus Worship at Campbell
University kicked off in a big way
th
on Sunday, January 20 . The
realization of months’ worth of
planning and praying, the first of
the weekly evening worship
services went beyond the
expectations of many, including
those behind the planning.
Begun with a prayer, the service
centered on worship through song,
prayer, scripture, testimony, and
renewal as students wrote down
heartfelt prayers to leave to God on
the altar.
Campus Minister Faithe Beam and
Graduate Assistant Louisa Monroe
advise the planning team.
So far the response to the new
worship service has been generally
positive. Planning team member
Emily Maultsby acknowledges that,
“It’s been very interesting to see
the faith displayed in some
students, and that’s something I
haven’t been used to seeing
around campus.”

based on the theme of unity as
found in 1 Corinthians 12. “It was
exciting..I really enjoyed seeing
people react to a different way to
interpret scripture,” McGowan
remarked.
Campus Worship is held each
Sunday in Butler Chapel at 7pm.
For more information, please

Sexual Assault Awareness Week
February 18-20
Each year in the United States, there are about 207,754 victims of sexual
assault. 80% of those victims are under 30 and 54% of those assaults are
never reported to police. Perhaps most disturbing, 2/3 of assaults are
committed by someone known to the victim. It’s time for people to say,
“enough is enough.”

Amena Brown coming on
February 25th
On Wednesday, February 25, renowned writer, poet, and speaker
Amena Brown will be at Campbell University for Connections 200
and an evening performance that night in Turner Auditorium. As a
poet, speaker, author, and event host Amena Brown’s words excite,
ignite and inspire. Whether in front of audiences as intimate as 50 or
as sprawling as 20,000, she has something to say that matters.
Amena’s debut book release, Breaking Old Rhythms: Answering the
Call of a Creative God, explores how experiences such as deejaying,
learning to dance, having a broken heart, and practicing the rules of
improv can teach us about our life’s rhythm and how we can better
tune our ears and lives to the rhythm of God.
She and her husband, Matt, also known as DJ Opdiggy, travel and
perform a presentation of poetry, monologue and deejaying. Along
with her spoken word recordings, Amena has participated in
numerous professional and live recordings and video series.
th
Amena’s evening performance on the 25 is open to the public and is
a Connections 200 credit opportunity. Event begins at 7:00pm.
