City of Verona Refuse and Recycling Information CURBSIDE (WASTE MANAGEMENT) REFUSE – Weekly collection of refuse will take place either Monday or Tuesday (please reference the Refuse and Recycling Map and Schedule links on our city website). Containers must be placed curbside by 7:00am (but not more than 24 hours in advance) and must be removed no later than 24 hours after collection. Waste Management will collect trash and recycling between 7am and 6pm on your designated service day. Residents will be allowed to place at curbside for collection the equivalent of five thirty-two gallon containers or 250 pounds. Residents provide their own bags or bins for refuse. All items shall be neatly stacked for collection. If a resident has more items than allowed, they can call Waste Management at 1-888-960-0008 or email [email protected] to schedule payment and pickup of items. Due to health and safety concerns for the drivers, Waste Management prohibits their drivers from reaching into containers to empty them. Acceptable Bulk Waste Unacceptable Bulk Waste • • • • • • Small appliance not banned from landfills (i.e. toasters) Furniture Small auto parts in containers, other than batteries Box springs and mattresses Carpet and pads (no wider than 3 feet, rolled up, not weighing more than 50 lbs.) Remodeling materials: maximum of five 30 gal garbage cans not exceeding 50 lbs. each. Wood and drywall must be cut in three foot lengths and piled neatly. NOTE: Any remodeling materials over this amount, you must contact Waste Management’s Customer Service at 1-888-960-0008 to arrange for a dumpster Toilets or sinks Large appliances and white goods Metals (including items 50% or more metal) Lawn Mowers Bicycles Material in containers or bundles exceeding limits Large auto parts (engine blocks, fenders, tires, etc.) Stone, concrete, rubble, earth or sod Tree trunks or stumps Branches, tree trimmings, leaves, grass clippings Tires RECYCLING – Recycling is picked up bi-weekly (please reference the refuse and recycling map and schedule links on our city website). Please use the green cart with the yellow lid for recyclables only. Place all recycled items in your recycling cart. The weight limit for the cart is 200 pounds. Residents in newly constructed homes can call Public Works at 8456695 to receive a recycling bin drop-off. All carts should go to the curb for collection with the handles facing the house and they need to be at least two feet away from trash, other containers and any fixed objects. Acceptable Items for Recycling Chipboard and boxboard (empty cereal boxes, etc.) Brown paper bags Paper cardboard (dairy and juice containers) Corrugated cardboard Junk mail, including envelopes Plastic bottles #1 - #7 Phone books, catalogs and magazines Glass bottles and jars Aluminum foil and cans Newspapers Office and school paper Tin or steel cans The following items must be recycled but are not included with your bi-weekly recycling collection. To arrange for a curbside pickup (fee charged) for the items listed below you must contact Waste Management Customer Service Department at 1-888-960-0008. NOTE: These items may also be disposed of at the Public Works drop-off site. Metals (including items 50% or more metal) Large appliances: air conditioners, dehumidifiers, refrigerators/freezers, microwaves, stoves, washers/dryers, water heaters/softeners Lawn mowers Bicycles Tires (max 4, off rims), $2 per tire Hazardous Items Waste Management will not collect solid or liquid hazardous waste. Examples include paint, pesticides and petroleum derivatives, such as motor oil and solvents, and explosive items. Missed Collection Despite our best efforts, we occasionally miss scheduled collections. If we do, please call us as soon as you can. We will try to return on the same day to pick it up without charge. If our driver has already left the City of Verona, we will pick up the missed stop the following day. For safety reasons, noncompliance of the guidelines described below will jeopardize collection of your brush. Collection is for tree trimmings, stumps and shrubs Brush cut/trimmed by persons/firms hired by the property owner will not be collected. Brush must be neatly stacked and parallel to the street. As you face the street, cut ends to your right. In the event of a major storm, brush should be placed curbside and will be picked up as soon as possible. CHRISTMAS TREE PICKUP – Pickup will be during the month of January. You must remove the bag or your tree will not be collected. FALL LEAF COLLECTION – This collection will begin in October and run through mid-November. Leaves, lawn clippings and garden debris should be placed into the curb and will be picked weekly.
