Danish public funding Innovation Fund Denmark, IFD Innovation Fund Denmark invests in new knowledge and technology creating growth and employment in Denmark. Industrial PhD program An Industrial PhD project is a three-year industrially-focused PhD project conducted between a company, a university and an Industrial PhD candidate. General conditions: - The application is drafted jointly by a company, a university and a candidate – the student is employed in the private sector company and enrolled at the university. - The company is the formal applicant, since the company employs the candidate and is the project host upon approval of the project 1 - In 2017, funds for Greenlandic and Faroese companies are also possible. The Industrial PhD candidate must: - Have an education at a master’s degree level, - Have obtained a weighted grade point average of at least 8.2 on the Danish 7-point grading scale or 9 on the 13-point scale for the entire master’s program (for both bachelor’s and master’s studies), - At least have obtained the grade 10 for any final thesis or examination project. o Applicants with ungraded final projects must submit a written assessment of the project. o A candidate with a slightly lower grade point average can be approved if the candidate can document research ability Deadlines in 2017: 20. DFC is a self-governing institution under Danida (the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs). Within the framework of Danish development cooperation, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) hereby invites Phase 1 applications for research grants. The two calls cover: 1. research collaboration projects in Danida priority countries “Window 1” - applied from Denmark, Ghana, and Tanzania, and 2. research collaboration projects with partners in growth and transition countries “Window 2” applied from Denmark. Following Phase 2 applications in September 2017, the final prioritization process of these Calls will take place in December 2017, so that selected projects may start in 2018. VILLUM Experiment This programme has been created for exceptional research projects that challenge norms and possess the potential to fundamentally change our approach to key topics. Selection of eligible candidates is based on the quality of the research proposals, their originality and potential. Researchers can apply for DKK 1-2m for typically up to two years to explore the breakthrough potential of their idea. The budget covers all project-related expenses such as salary, travel, running costs, etc. The applicant must hold a doctoral degree or similar. Applications will be processed within 3-4 weeks. Deadline: Applications can be continuously submitted 3 Novo Nordisk Fonden Supports biotechnology, biomedical research, clinical medical research. Laureate Research Grant A grant to enable scientists to come to Denmark to build their visionary research programs in new scientific directions and breakthroughs within biomedicine and biotechnology. NNF Laureate Research Grants are intended to enable exceptional researchers to conduct larger and longer-term projects, as well as to facilitate collaboration across scientific and geographic borders. The researcher may apply for a grant of up to 40 mio. DKK for a period of 7 years. Up to 10 mio. DKK for establishment of the laboratory during the first year following years funded at up to 5 mio. DKK/year. After 5 years of research supported by the NNF Laureate Research Grant, the scientist may apply for one period of extension of up to 7 years. Funding may again be up to 5 mio. DKK/year, with a limit of 35 mio. DKK in total. For the application round of 2017, the Challenge Programme seeks to support outstanding scientists working within the following two themes: 1. Big Data in Biomedicine 2. Design and Engineering of Biological Molecules and Systems For both themes, the research must be in-depth, but the subject can be cross-disciplinary, and should not be considered limited to any particular research methodology or discipline. The Challenge Programme supports excellent scientists from 1-3 research groups, in addition to the main applicant, to solve a shared research question within one of the Challenge themes in smaller, collaborative centres with a unifying vision and mission.
