7 3/8-inch 10K Surface Test Tree
As a part of Halliburton’s premiere large-bore Subsea Safety
System, the 7 3/8-Inch Surface Test Tree supports the test string
and is utilized to provide control of the well at surface. The
Surface Test Tree provides the capability to flow or kill the well as
desired, and it provides a means to perform live well-intervention
work such as slickline, electric line, and coiled tubing.
The Surface Test Tree can be adapted to connect to various sizes
of tubing or drillpipe through the use of a crossover sub.
An oil-filled swivel assembly below the central body of the Surface
Test Tree enables tubing to rotate freely, providing a means to
manipulate the tool string while the test tree remains stationary.
The Surface Test Tree can also be fitted with a lower master valve
installed immediately below the swivel assembly for complete
Surface Test Tree isolation.

well through the swab valve

Each tree is supplied with a handling sub to enable rig elevators to
raise and lower the tree in the derrick. Flanged 45° support subs
on the kill and flow wing sides of the central body enable flexible
flow lines to be easily connected to the Surface Test Tree.
Features
The Surface Test Tree consists of the following main components:
• Swab Valve: A 7 3/8-inch hydraulically operated gate valve
located at the top of the Surface Test Tree block, enabling an
entry point into the string when used with a blowout preventer
(BOP) and Lubricator. The swab Valve is a fail-as-is valve fitted
with a manual override and position indicator.
• Flow Valve: A 5 1/8-inch hydraulically operated fail-safeclosed (FSC) gate valve that can be controlled automatically by
emergency shutdown pilots while flowing well effluents to the
well-test package.
• Kill Valve: A 5 1/8-inch hydraulically operated FSC gate valve
utilized to kill the well or pump into the landing string. Fitted
with a Check Valve to prevent well effluents from flowing back
through the kill line to the pumps.
• Master Valve: A 7 3/8-inch valve left in the open position
during the flowing of the well, provides a barrier from the well
fluid when closed, and assists during the pressure testing of
the Surface Test Tree and use of a BOP and Lubricator during
remedial work being performed in the string.
• Swivel: Enables tubing rotation for manipulating downhole
equipment without turning the Surface Test Tree. The Swivel
also has lock pins that can be engaged to prevent it from
swiveling for transportation and rig up if desired.
