SETTING UP THE CRITICAL PARTS

The critical part to make the “BINE”
follow the correct “PITCH” (lateral
distance travelled per revolution) is
the driving pulley (silver threaded in
photo) which for this project was
machined with groves for the wire to
follow.

Rearrange the circumference (C) of
circle formula.


C = 2 (pi) r
r = C / 2 (pi)

Solve for r, where C = 10 inches



r = 10 / 2 (pi)
r =
5 / (pi)
r =
1.592

Solve for d, where d = 2r

d = (2)(1.592)

Hence: d = 3.183 inches for the
middle of the wire
Because these posts have six bines , the Masonite template that will be
attached to the post for positioning the cuts is marked with the six points
(as in photo). A compass set to the exact radius length, will “walk” (mark)
around the circle establishing six equal parts.
