Marketing the Village 02 Greeting Top Priorities 03 Economic Development In 2014, the Village of Matteson embarked on creating an Economic Development and Land Use Master Plan. One key recommendation from the plan was to create a comprehensive marketing and branding plan to highlight the unique assets of Matteson. This plan is intended to work in conjunction with the Village’s economic development efforts. The beginning phase of the marketing and branding initiative began in the summer of 2015. This campaign will strengthen the image of the Village for current and prospective residents, visitors, and community partners as well as for economic development purposes. The four main objectives of this project are to: 1. Assess the unique needs and goals of the Village through various market research strategies, including but not limited to: key stakeholder interviews, community-wide online survey, competitor analysis, and audit of current marketing materials; 2. Facilitate education-based marketing strategies; 3. Create a comprehensive branding campaign including marketing messaging and tagline, enhanced brand visuals, public relations and social media strategies; and 4. Develop a strategic marketing plan and timeline for ongoing implementation. Starting with market research activities in the summer of 2015; the project will involve various touch points with residents and other stakeholders throughout the fall of 2015. www.villageofmatteson.org Greetings! Ashmore Village President The Village of Matteson Seeks New Director of Economic Development The Village is in the process of filling the vacant Director of Economic Development position. The new director will move the vision of the President, Board of Trustees, and community forward as we continue in our efforts to be an economic engine for the south suburbs. The Village plans to have this position filled by November 2015. Get Informed! Matteson MYTH: There are no efforts being taken to redevelop the Lincoln Mall property. FACT: The Village is working with Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), a prestigious real estate firm, who is vigorously marketing the property to prospective developers. JLL is currently in the process of setting up meetings with potential developers at the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) conference that will be held in Chicago. Economic Development Progress Update The Village is pleased to report the following economic development advancements: Carson Pirie Scott has made a substantial reinvestment in their Matteson store, including interior construction and replacing signage at mall entry points. Mitsubishi plans to open their doors in the Auto Mall by the end of the year. Ryland Homes, one of the world’s leading residential developers, is proposing to complete the Brookmere subdivision at Vollmer Rd. & Cicero Ave. The developer is proposing to build 128 single-family, 72 townhomes, and 108 quad homes that will be initially planned for rentals and then converted to for-sale properties. Sam’s Club has made a substantial investment in their Matteson location for renovations and expansion. 27 Gain an understanding of the Village’s economic development process, timeline, and efforts. Sherwin Williams paint store opened for business this fall. Economic Development 101 OC T Stay in the Loop The Village’s primary commercial corridors will soon become an Enterprise Zone. The purpose is to stimulate economic growth and neighborhood revitalization at the local level through state and local tax incentives. One of the main benefits is a 6.25% state sales tax exemption on building material to be used in the Enterprise Zone. Keeping you informed on some of the most common misconceptions MYTH: The Village is declining and many of the stores in the area are closing. FACT: In the last five years since the recession, sales tax revenue for the Village has gradually increased and is higher than many neighboring communities. While there have been businesses that have left the Village, the Village has welcomed more than two dozen new stores in recent years. MYTH: The Village of Matteson’s budget process is poorly run and relies on a number of inefficient practices. FACT: The Village of Matteson is held accountable to outside agencies for various financial reporting procedures. As a result, the Village is audited by an outside firm, and engages in various state and federal audits as necessary. The Village consistently passes these third party audits. Schools 79% 3 Survey Highlights Community Survey The purpose of the survey was to gain feedback and insight from residents and key stakeholders regarding their current perceptions of the Village of Matteson. Survey responses will be used to inform the development of the new marketing and branding campaign for the Village. Outreach efforts included, but were not limited to, a post card mailing to 5,006 homes, flyers in local businesses, outreach to all of the HOA Presidents, and postings on various online platforms.
