Friday, August 28, 2015
Doors open at 7:00 a.m. - Program starts at 7:30 a.m.
Sloan Convention Center
1021 Wilkinson Trace
Commonwealth
Health
Corporation (CHC), parent
company of The Medical Center,
and UK HealthCare opened
Medical Center Orthopaedics,
Southcentral Kentucky’s new
orthopaedic surgery practice, in early 2015. The Medical Center
created the new physician practice in affiliation with UK HealthCare
Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine to expand availability of
orthopaedic surgeons in Southcentral Kentucky.
Orthopaedics is one of the fastest growing service lines in the country.
National models predict a 15% increase in Orthopaedics over the next
few years.
“For years, Orthopaedics has been a significant part of The Medical
Center. Patients have made it clear that they want a choice and they
want to receive their orthopaedic care at The Medical Center,” said
Connie Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer of Commonwealth
Health Corporation. “To facilitate the expansion of Orthopaedics, The
Medical Center has partnered with UK HealthCare. UK has an excellent
reputation in Orthopaedics, and we feel that combining that reputation
with The Medical Center made sense.”
The first physician recruited to the practice is Rasesh Desai, M.D.,
F.A.A.O.S., orthopaedic surgeon and assistant professor with UK
HealthCare Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. Dr. Desai’s
extensive fellowship training includes
Orthopaedic Spine at University of Louisville,
Pediatric Orthopaedic and Pediatric Spine
at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and Adult
Reconstructive (Total Joints) Orthopaedics
at University of Louisville.
“The recruitment of Dr. Desai onto our faculty
and into the Bowling Green community
represents just the first investment in new
models of care by two strong healthcare
systems, UK HealthCare and The Medical
Center,” said Dr. Michael Karpf, Executive
Rasesh Desai, M.D.
Vice President for Health Affairs at the
University of Kentucky. “Our relationship
in orthopaedics and also stroke care will allow UK HealthCare and The
Medical Center to provide advanced medicine for Kentuckians as close
to home as possible, in the most appropriate setting.” In 2014, The
Medical Center joined the Norton Healthcare/UK HealthCare Stroke
Care Network to allow for the sharing of best practices and outcomes
data to promote continuous quality improvement in stroke care.
Medical Center Orthopaedics is located at 825 Second Avenue East in
the Riverside Professional Center on The Medical Center campus. To
learn more, visit medcenterortho.com. To schedule an appointment,
call Medical Center Orthopaedics at 270-780-2750.

www.bgchamber.com Mike Pratt
Color Analyst for the UK Sports Network
Whether in Kentucky or China, University
of Kentucky fans around the world enjoy
broadcasts of each men’s basketball game via
ukathletics.com and satellite radio. Mike Pratt
’75 ED is part of the team at IMG Sports Radio
Network with Tom Leach that brings these
historic games into the homes of millions of
Wildcat fans each season. In addition to doing color analysis for radio, he
also is currently helping UK Athletics on a part-time basis with developing
the UK fan base in Louisville/Jefferson County.
Pratt has the perfect background for talking about all things UK basketball.
He was a three-year letter winner as a 6’4” guard from 1967 through 1970
under coach Adolph Rupp. He then played with the American Basketball
Association’s Kentucky Colonels for two seasons, served as an assistant
to coach Lee Rose at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte before
becoming head coach for four years. Pratt was also a scout for the NBA
before delving into the broadcast side of the game back in 1985 in
Charlotte. This led to stints with ESPN and Fox Sports South Net. When
Sam Bowie ’84 AS resigned, Pratt began as color analyst for the UK Radio
Network, which became the Big Blue Sports Network and was later
purchased by the entertainment management company IMG.
Pratt, who was admitted to UK’s prestigious 1,000 points club with 1,359
points in his three years, also became a member of the UK Athletic Hall of
Fame in 2009.

Bliss Ave Brewing Company is a brewery and taproom, locally owned by Rob and Jennifer Coffey,
dedicated to creating and serving a variety of
house-made and national craft beer selections
available by the drink and for growler fills. The
brewhouse features a 2-barrel system with four
4-barrel fermenters, producing approximately
300 barrels of beer per year.
Bliss Ave is also available to host craft beer
dinners, teaming our brews with catered food
for private parties, corporate events or holiday
gatherings. Jennifer has many years of experience as an event planner and can help provide a
memorable event for your guests.

Venture down 31W South from Bowling Green,
Kentucky and you can’t miss the big red barn on
your right. Chaney’s Dairy Barn was opened in
September 2003 to a public hungry for something
different and something “udderly” wonderful.
Chaney’s Dairy Barn has been met with tremendous success since the very first opening day.
Along with their ice cream that is made on the
premises, they offer homemade sandwiches,
soups, ice cream pies, and a wide variety of Kentucky food items. Plans are in the works for a full
processing facility on the farm in the next couple
of years so that fresh Jersey milk may be sold
directly to the public and used in their delicious
ice cream. The Chaney’s have also filled the Barn
with specially selected crafts and foods made
by Kentucky artists and companies. Gift baskets
filled with these items are in great demand for the
holiday season.

Introducing . . . Paul Stratton
Paul Stratton is the Chamber’s new Executive Assistant to President and CEO Ron Bunch. He is responsible for
keeping a comprehensive calendar and coordinating multiple committees focused on developing our local
economy, in addition to several other duties.
Stratton previously served as the Store manager at the Sprint store in Bowling Green, where he controlled all of
the day-to-day operations, growing the store’s profits over the year before, even doubling and tripling them in
some months.
Stratton graduated from SKYCTC in 2011, with an Associate of Applied Science. He is currently attending Western
Kentucky University studying Business Administration, and pursuing a Bachelor of Science with a track in Business
Administration. He enjoys spending his spare time with his girlfriend, Alissa, his family, or playing video games.

Partner
Established in 1986 by John M. “Jack”
Schultz, Agracel, Inc. humbly began as
a farmland investment company. When
looking to name the firm, two words kept
surfacing: Agriculture and Excel. Thus our
name was born (Agriculture + Excel =
Agracel). As the years passed Agracel’s
core focus turned from farm ground to
industrial development in rural America.
Though our days of farmland investments
are over, we have chosen to retain the
Agracel name. We believe firmly in the
principles set forth by our agricultural heritage. The name Agracel ties us to the land
and the good things that farmers stand
for. Excellence not only in agriculture, but
in everything they do. These principles
have allowed Agracel to grow by leaps and
bounds over the past 25 years. Today, Team
Agracel has developed over 10 million
square feet of industrial space in 17 states.
