Our guest speaker was Jerry Derr, founder of the Sergeant Colton Levi Derr Foundation. He currently works for the Meade County Commissioners as Assistant-Human Resources. Jerry was in law enforcement for many years, serving in Iraq for 3 years with the National Guard training Iraqi police. He founded the organization in honor of his son, Colton who after returning for many tours of duty and suffering with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder took his own life. The foundation's goal is to help the veteran and their families who are struggling with PTSD and going through difficult times after they return home. They want to raise awareness of how many soldiers take their lives every day--23! That number is unacceptable. The Foundation would like to find a place in Rapid City where veterans can go to visit and have a cup of coffee. Please visit their website at www.Sergeantderrfoundation.org. The Meade County Republican Women were honored to give the Foundation $50.00 towards their Caring for America project. Our next meeting is Friday, February 6th at Noon at Caddy's/Philtown in Sturgis. As we petition the throne room of Almighty God, please remember to pray for those who have recently lost a loved one. May God continue to comfort them in the days ahead. Please remember to pray for those who are ill. May God's hand reach down and heal them. Please remember to pray for all of our military men and women who are on the front lines here and abroad. May God protect them and return them home. May God watch over their families while they are away. Please remember to pray for all of our members of Congress, the Supreme Court and our President. These are our leaders and we need to pray that they walk in Godly wisdom and character. Please remember to pray for all of our leaders in South Dakota from Senators Thune and Rounds, Congresswoman Noem, Governor Daugaard and the Legislature, Supreme Court and Constitutional officers. May God hold them tightly in His hand, showering them with wisdom and courage to do the right thing. Please remember to pray for all of those affected by the winter storms here and abroad. Please remember to pray for our new SDFRW President, Sandye Kading and her team. May God bless them in the next two years.
