HACER, ESTAR, TENER, LLOVER Y NEVAR

¡VERBOS!
HACER, ESTAR, TENER, LLOVER Y NEVAR
HACER-
USE HACER WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT THE WEATHER OR DESCRIBE THE WEATHER. KEEP
IN MIND THAT YOU ONLY USE THIS WHEN YOU ARE REFERRING TO THE WEATHER IN GENERAL (IT IS
COLD) BUT NOT HOW WEATHER MAKES YOU FEEL (I AM COLD).
You will need to know the el/ella/usted
form of the verb Hacer which is HACE.
Use HAY when you want to state that there is
“something” that adds to the weather but not so much
So when you want to say that it is hot or is to describe the weather.
it cold you would use the verb like so:
Ej.
HACE frío
HAY viento
HAY lluvia
HACE calor
HAY sol
HAY nieve
HACE buen tiempo
However, you would not use it to say “Hay calor” or
“Hay frío.”
LLOVER/NEVAR
• Present tense of llover is llueve.
Llueve durante la escuela = It rains during school.
• Present tense of nevar is nieva.
Nieva durante la navidad = It snows during Christmas.
• Again you can use estar to say it is raining/snowing.
Está lloviendo / Está nevando.
ESTAR FOR WEATHER- YOU CAN ALSO USE ESTAR FOR WEATHER WHEN YOU USE IT ALONG
WITH AN ADJECTIVE. ALSO TO DESCRIBE THE WEATHER USE ESTAR SINCE IT IS A NON-PERMANENT STATE. IT MAY BE
RAINING FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS OR DAYS BUT USUALLY IT IS NOT PERMANENT.
Está nublado = It is cloudy.
Está soleado. = It is sunny.
Estar with adjective
Está tormentoso = It is stormy.
Está lloviendo = It is raining.
Está nevando = It is snowing.
Estar to describe a non-permanent
state of the weather
TENER- YOU HAVE LEARNED IN THE PAST THAT TO SAY YOUR AGE AND TO SAY YOU ARE
HUNGRY YOU WOULD USE TENER. USE TENER WHEN YOU WANT TO DESCRIBE HOW THE WEATHER
MAKES YOU FEEL (I AM COLD) AND ALSO FOR OTHER EXPRESSIONS.
Tengo frío. (I am cold)
Tengo calor. (I am hot)
Tengo sueño. (I am sleepy)
Tengo prisa. (I am in a hurry)
