A SUFFIX IS A WORD PART THAT IS ADDED TO THE END
OF A WORD AND CHANGES THE MEANING OF THE WORD.
-ist means “one who practices”
-ic means “relating to”
-ation/-tion and -ism mean “state of being”
-ent means ‘inclined to”
Recreation is
amusement.
A dentist is a doctor for teeth.
A perfectionist is a person who likes things to be perfect.
Someone who is heroic is very brave.
Historic means “famous in history.”
An accusation is a charge against someone.
Optimism is the belief that things will turn out for the best.
Journalism is the writing and publishing of newspapers and magazines.
When something is turbulent, it is disturbed.
Succulent means “juicy.”
