The February and March Benchmark tests are a trial run for the
STAAR tests given in March and May and are considered NO
MOVEMENT days. Therefore, students may not have lunches
delivered from home on the following testing days:

Wednesday March 1 (reading)
If students choose not to bring a lunch from home, they may buy
one from the cafeteria.
Students are encouraged to bring healthy snacks on testing days.

*February is scoliosis screening month. By the end of this
week, all Cryar students will have been screened. Parents
will be notified of the screening results only if professional
follow-up is necessary.
Valentine Treats
Just a reminder to parents that Tuesday, February 14th,
is one of the FMNV days (Foods of Minimal Nutritional
Value) for Cryar students.
Treat time will be from 3:25 to 3:45 p.m.
*The required immunizations for all incoming 7th graders
were addressed in a letter that was sent home in your
child’s Tuesday folder on January 24th. Please refer to the
vital information given in the letter.
*March will be growth and development month. During
this month, boys and girls will be shown videos in separate
classrooms during their PE class. These videos are required
by the Texas Education Agency for 5th and 6th grade
students.
Peet Junior High News for
6th Graders
***NEW registration procedure for the
2017-18 school year . . .
7th grade registration will be done
ONLINE at home using Student Access.
*Thursday, February 9th: Presentation to 6th
graders at Cryar by Peet administrators during
SWE. Students will receive PRACTICE course
selection sheets for 7th grade and a sheet of
instructions for registering online at home using
Student Access. The PRACTICE course selection
sheet must be returned to each students’
homeroom teacher no later than Thursday,
February 16th.
*Monday, February 13th from 6:00–7:30 PM:
Elective night at Peet JH. Also, mandatory
meeting for those interested in cheer, mascot, or
drill team.

*Wednesday, February 15th at 8:15 AM: Makeup mandatory meeting for those who were
unable to attend cheer, mascot, or drill team
meeting on Monday, Feb. 13.
*Thursday, February 16th: Deadline for
returning PRACTICE course selection sheets to
homeroom teachers.
The videos consist of basic topics including puberty, the
reproductive system, physical changes during puberty,
hygiene, and healthy habits.
If you do not wish for your child to participate in this
course, you must submit a written request to the school
nurse or homeroom teacher. If you have questions or
concerns, please contact your child’s teacher or the school
nurse.

News from the P.E. Department
***5th Graders – Jump Rope for Heart
WHEN: February 21st through February 24th.
COLLECTION DATES: February 21st through
March 3rd.
5th graders will be participating in a jump rope unit during PE,
February 21st through February 24th, which coincides with the
Jump Rope for Heart donation drive. This is a fun event and
an educational program in which our students learn jump
rope skills while raising money to fund lifesaving heart
research. All donations are due to Coach Ramirez and
Coach Henderson by Friday, March 3rd. Thanks for
allowing your 5th grader to participate.
***6th Graders – Hoops for Heart
*Friday, February 17th: All PRACTICE course
selection sheets from each homeroom are due to
Cryar’s counselor.
*Friday, February 17th: Pre-Algebra Readiness
Exam will be administered to all 6th graders
during math class.
*Tuesday, February 21st: Deadline for online
registration at home.
*Friday, February 24th: Algebra Assessment will
be administered to students in advanced math
who scored 70 or above on the Pre-Algebra
Readiness Exam.

6TH graders will be participating in a series of basketball games
during their PE classes, February 21st through February 24th.
This will be a fun event for the 6th graders and an educational
program that coincides with raising money to fund lifesaving
