Collection:
TYPE OF SPECIMEN
Freshly collected urine samples should be used for testing. Collect urine samples in
plastic clean(i.e., polypropylene, polycarbonate, polyethylene) containers.
Urine testing requires a mininum of 30mls of urine.
Cap must be properly placed on urine container to insure that the specimen will not leak
in transport. Urine container must be transported in a sealed collection bag .
Every effort must be made during collection to minimize the opportunity for the test
subject to substitute, adulterate, or dilute the collected specimen prior to drug testing.
Samples will be rejected if they don’t meet the integrity protocol appropriate for drug
testing at MPL.
Container must be labelled with patients name (First & Last) and the requisition ID
identifier must be on the container. Samples should be at room temperature for testing.
SPECIMEN STORAGE AND STABILITY
If the sample cannot be analyzed immediately, it should be stored at +2°C to +8°C for up
to 7 days.
