PLEASE remember to be positive and encouraging on all plays and corrections.. Most of these kids have NO idea what they are doing out there and we want them to enjoy the game! It is our job to build their confidence and game knowledge. MAKE SURE EVERY KID ON YOUR TEAM GETS THE BALL... SPREAD IT AROUND EVENLY. Your team will need to find a score keeper/ person to run the stop watch. We will be keeping score and records so encourage our player to play hard but make sure as coaches we play fair. Also please help the score keepers if you see any corrections and report the final scores to Michelle or Jen. 1. We could use our volunteer coaches to ref the games so if any of you are interested in coming early or staying later to ref a game before or after your teams play that would be great. Please don't feel obligated to do so though, we appreciate you just coaching as well. 2. If we can’t find a ref for the games one of the team coaches will be in charge of the whistle and reffing for your own game. We did this last year and it worked just fine. 3. Both leagues RULES: The main rules are: Touchdown= 6 points (teams have the option to go for 1 extra point from the 5 yard line (pass only) or 2 points from the 10 yard line (run or pass) There will be 1 first down at mid field The five yards before the midfield first down marker and the five yards before the end zone are PASS ONLY ZONES. coaches are quarterbacks Flag guarding is NOT allowed.. give a warning the first few times and if this continues it is a dead ball and loss of down. Make sure the kids are lined up correctly before the ball is snapped.. No offside penalties just coach them and line them up properly. If you see holding or pass interference give the kids explanations and correct them on the proper way to block or defend. (no penalties unless this continues over a period of warnings) Be lenient and encouraging when it comes to the penalties, we want the kids to learn the game and the correct way to play it so if you see it make sure you explain it to them but we don't need to penalize them for it unless it becomes an issue. LITTLE TYKES RULES: If the coach quarterback fumbles the snap the ball is still playable. If the ball is fumbled on a hand off or at any other time it is a dead ball at the spot of the fumble. No turnover's on fumbles If the ball is intercepted by the defense the ball will be turned over at the spot of the interception. No ball advancement. Ball will be spotted at the 5 yard line to start the game and half. LITTLE PROS RULES: There will be a kick-off to start the game and half only. After touchdowns are made the ball will be spotted at the 5 yard line. Fumbles may be recovered by the defense but not advanced. Interceptions may be advanced. 4th Down Rule This is for BOTH leagues. If a team chooses to "go for it" on 4th down and they do NOT get the first down it is a turnover at the spot of the ball. Every team has the option to "punt" on 4th down and the ball would then go all the way to the other team’s 5 yard line. Also I have NO issues at all if the same kid gets the ball 2 plays in a row (especially if he is not being guarded). As long as you as coaches are distributing the ball evenly throughout the course of the game and giving every kid an opportunity to make a play then it’s all good. This is football and if I have a "go to player" on 4th and 20 then you better believe that's who I'm giving the ball too...maybe.. :) We also do have that fine line of not giving one kid the ball too much. I trust you guys to make the right calls and decisions out there and I have been very pleased with all of your commitments to these kids. It truly does mean a lot! Thanks guys, we will see you tonight!
