Year 2 Autumn-Term Curriculum Letter The Rainforest Dear Parents/Carers, Welcome back to the new year! We hope you had a wonderful summer break. This half term our creative curriculum topic is The Rainforest. We have planned lots of exciting activities and will be looking at plants and animals from The Rainforests around the world. We hope the children enjoy learning about this. Kind regards, Mrs Smith, Miss Rolfe, Mrs Olcay and Mrs Lapham Art This term we will be teaching the children all about colour mixing and the use of different tools to use in their art. Author Study Our author study is Oliver Jeffers. We will be reading his books and discussing his style of writing. Community Links We will be visited by a local Police Constable who will be talking to the children about how to stay safe. D&T Geography We will be learning about The Rainforest. We will be looking at maps, landmarks and the physical and human features of theThe Rainforest, as well as the different types of plants and animals. History We will be having a local history week in November. Maths We will be learning our 2,5 and 10 times table and using this to solve problems. We be practicing addition and subtraction using 2 and 3 digit numbers. We will be learning about 2D and 3D shapes and time. English In English this term we will be covering a variety of genres including story writing, poetry and non-fiction. We will be encouraging children to talk for writing through role play. We will continue to practice handwriting and will be focusing on the children’s spellings and punctuation. We will be following a daily reading programme in year 2 where the children will be participating in a daily guided reading group. Music Music will be taught by Debbie Goldman. We will be learning a variety of songs related to our topic. We will be learning songs that we will be performing at the Infant Music festival. RE We will be discussing people who are important to us and then linking this to important people in different religions. Computing We will be learning about E safety so that the children can learn to use the computer safely. PE PE will be taught by Mr Shillito. The children will be participating in team games and will continue to develop their agility and co-ordination through a variety of activities. PSHE We will be learning about British values such as democracy, individual liberty and respect. We will also be talking about a variety of topics in circle time. Science As part of our science topic on Living Things and their Habitats we will be learning about life processes and the differences between living and non-living things. We will also be looking at habitats and food chains.
