WA BRANCH (April 15th)
GPS A COST EFFECTIVE TOOL FOR
THE EXPLORATION AND PRODUCTION INDUSTRY
by John Tompson, Woodside
GPS is an acronym for the Global Positioning System. The Global Positioning System is a satellite based navigation technology that is revolutionising the manner in
which survey and positioning support is
provided to the petroleum industry.
Activities such as rig positioning, seismic
acquisition, and offshore construction are
but a few examples of the project areas that
are now benefiting from this technology.
This presentation aims to provide an overview of the now typical uses for GPS in the
offshore exploration and production environment and highlight other potential applications of the technology.
