Its natives at the time were two Amerindians tribes - the Arawaks and the Caribs. On Nov 30th 1966 Errol Walton Barrow led Barbados into Independence and became our first Prime Minister. Road tennis was invented in Barbados in the 1930s and is mostly played on roads and pavements. The equipment consists of an 8 inch wooden net, a bald tennis ball and wooden racket. The court is 21ft by 10ft. On January 11th 2012 Road Tennis was featured on CNN. The major tournament is the World Road Tennis Series in November and Mark “Venom” Griffith defeated Michael “Jackson” in 2015 to become the reigning champion.
