Community Action NW Community Action Agency of Northwest Alabama May 2016 Awareness—NO more Child Abuse Every day should be lived as a day to end child abuse and neglect but April is the designated month for national recognition including blue as the chosen color for awareness. Local grantees Thanks to Mayor Ian Sanford and the Sheffield City Council for their Proclamation recognizing the problem of child abuse and neglect and dedicating to work together to end the abuse of our most vulnerable. To the surprise of many of our community supporters boxes of doughnuts were delivered to court personnel, judges, school boards, probation officers and others. of the Alabama Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention (ADCANP) were active during the month in ways that brought awareness to the Cause. A big thanks to our sister Children Trust Fund grantees— United Cerebral Palsy of Northwest Alabama, Attention Homes of Northwest Alabama, AIM—City Sheffield School. And thank you to the ADCANP—CTF staff for their support especially Tracy Plummer who came up from Montgomery to be our doughnut partner for the morning. Visit our website for more pictures highlighting the month of April and prevention of child abuse and neglect. www.caanw.org You can help the Cause by purchasing a specialty Children’s Trust Fund vehicle tag, utilizing income tax write off, or purchasing one of the specially designed personalized heirloom birth certificates. Page 2 Community Action NW Meals on Wheels Rolling Along Junior League of the Shoals Grant Award The Meals on Wheels (MOW) Program has been the grateful recipient of local grants including the Junior League of the Shoals and Trinity Episcopal Church St. Francis Project. The grants received from each of these partners helps make it possible to continue serving a daily meal to the 170+ homebound Meals on Wheels clients. We also thank our supporters that provide fund raising activities for MOW such as Buffalo Rock Tuscumbia Division, IBEW 558 and Muscle Shoals Electric Line Crew for donating winnings from their creative float entry in the Muscle Shoals Christmas Parade. One of our largest supporters able to reach the community is United Way— a very important part of the Meals on Wheels Program! Their ability to reach the giving community has been phenomenal. This outreach is something our small staff here at Community Action does not have the time or resources to achieve. Without United Way meal services would be reduced forcing many of our elderly and disabled to go without the nutritious meals and daily visits from volunteers. When it comes to resourcefulness our community is tops in thoughtful compassion! Thank you to our many, many churches and individuals, civic organizations and volunteers who support Meals on Wheels! Garden 2016 A special thank you to all the Garden volunteers, including TVA retirees, Southwire and others; For physical support from TVA, Clark Pulley, CB&S Bank, First United Methodist Church Russellville and to our many faithful financial supporters and especially to James Bedsole and Judy Guyton for their coordination efforts.
