Highlights of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation

On the 31st of October, 2017, there will be a public
holiday for just this year throughout Germany:
Reformation Day.
It was on this day exactly 500 years ago that Martin
Luther published his 95 theses against the abuse of
indulgences. He sent letters to church officials with his
theses, and according to legend he nailed them to the
door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg.

This exhibition, at the most frequented Luther site in
the world, illuminates some of the key motifs of the
Reformation. It shows how each epoch of German
history has created its very own image of Luther.

The first part of the exhibition, “95 Treasures”, utilises
extraordinary exhibits from the world in which Luther
lived in. Showing the footsteps of the young monk
Luder, and how he went on to become the transformational Luther. The second part presents “95 People”
and their existential relationships to Martin Luther
and his work.

The Bavarian State Exhibition will make its own
contribution to the Luther Decade with a presentation
that opens with a time panorama, showing the years
