ASUSF Resolution 15-16-11
Whereas: Over the last decade, Greek life has grown tremendously at the University of San Francisco with
the addition of all the above listed organizations outside of Delta Zeta; and
Whereas: The University of San Francisco’s Greek community currently has over four hundred members;
and
Whereas: The University of San Francisco’s Greek community is compromised of seven organizations,
listed as follows: Delta Zeta, Kappa Alpha Theta, Pi Kappa Phi, Phi Delta Theta, Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha
Kappa Alpha, Lambda Theta Nu, and Delta Sigma Theta; and
Whereas: The University of San Francisco’s Greek community is currently in the process of adding a fifth
sorority to our campus; and
Whereas: The University of San Francisco's Greek community strives to provide opportunities for growth
and excellence in academics, service, leadership, friendship, ritual, and social advancement; and
Whereas: For fall 2015, the USF average GPA was a 3.23; and
Whereas: For fall 2015, the all Greek average GPA was a 3.30; and
Whereas: The Greek community has collectively participated in (blank) hours of service and raised over
$(blank) for their philanthropies; and
Whereas: Members of the Greek community are involved in over 70 student organizations outside of
their Greek affiliations; and
Whereas: Members of the Greek community currently serve on over 30 executive boards including, but
not limited to: GO Team, ASUSF Senate, Campus Activities Board, Black Student Union, Women in
Science, and College Players; and
Whereas: Members of the Greek community regularly engage in each other’s social and philanthropic
programming; and
Whereas: Members of the Greek community live out the University of San Francisco’s core values through
their individual organizational programming; and
Whereas: The University of San Francisco does not currently provide any housing exclusively for members
of the Greek community; and

Whereas: Members of the Greek community have a hard time staying engaged with their programming
once they move off-campus; and
Whereas: Housing for students in Greek organizations is an essential part of community building; and
Whereas: San Francisco State University, a neighboring campus, provides its students with Theme
Community Housing; and
Whereas: One of the theme communities SFSU offers is a Greek floor; and
Whereas: The SFSU Housing website lists the Greek floor description as follows:
“The Greek floor focuses on promoting awareness and involvement throughout Residential Life
and the SFSU community. This community offers students the opportunity to live in a community along
with other residents that are looking to learn
new leadership skills, academic discipline, event
planning, financial proficiency, professional aptitude and networking skills. Through active involvement
in educational programming and community mobilization, the community strives to provide an
environment where residents are able to bring awareness to their respective
organization’s
philanthropies and foster a more welcoming SFSU community.”
Whereas: The University of San Francisco has steadily been increasing membership over the last decade;
therefore, be it
Resolved by ASUSF Senate of the University of San Francisco, representing all the undergraduate students
of the University: That the University of San Francisco will provide members of the Greek Community with
a themed floor in one of the on-campus residence halls starting in the academic year of 2017-2018;
furthermore, be it
Resolved: The Greek Floor will be in a residence hall for returning students such as Phelan Hall;
furthermore, be it
Resolved: That the Greeks residing on said floor will be expected to fulfill a number of requirements such
as a minimum of ten (10) service hours per semester, a minimum of five (5) study table hours per
semester, a required bystander intervention and alcohol awareness training, and attendance to at least
three (3) Greek events outside of their organization’s programming per semester
