About the pottery company
– Official name = Miyawo Company Limited (Miyao)
– Began in 1931, but not introduced to American until after WWII
– Came from Yokkaichi, Japan through many different distributors (i.e. Napco,
UCAGCO, etc)

About the PY mark
– Stamped in green PY and/or Miyao
– Source unknown
• “P” = pottery
• “Y” = Yokkaichi
– Many sets unmarked
• Making identification difficult or even
impossible to determine with certainty
•
About distinguishing features
– Heavy glaze made from glass particles
– Eyes are the most distinguishing feature
• We will see many examples throughout this presentation
