Louisiana College Athletics Administration
Dr. Joe Aguillard
Louisiana College President
Dr. Joe Aguillard was named the eighth president of Louisiana College on January 18, 2005. Dr.
Aguillard previously held the position of chair of the Division of Education, coordinator of the
Department of Teacher Education, and Associate Professor of Education. Under Aguillard’s leadership, the Division of Education grew more than 500 percent, leading the nation in percentage
of growth. It has consistently received high marks from the Louisiana Board of Regents, among
others. He has been elected by the College Deans of the state as president of their organization.
The Governor appointed him to the Louisiana Blue Ribbon Commission on Education and he
was chosen to represent the Governor’s office to present cutting edge educational innovations
nationally. He led a group of LC education students and faculty in researching and writing the
curriculum for the Heart of Spain art exhibit at the Alexandria Museum of Art in 2003. The
curriculum was used by teachers and their students around the world. Before being named as
president of Louisiana College, Aguillard was recognized as a popular faculty member with the
students. In the Spring of 2004, he was named by the student body as “Teacher of the Year.” Aguillard has been on faculty at
Louisiana College since 2000, but his personal history with the College is a long and storied one. Both of Aguillard’s parents
attended Louisiana College and met at the liberal arts school. He and his wife met at Louisiana College, and all three of their
children have attended their parents’ alma mater. Aguillard holds a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana College, two master’s
degrees and a doctorate in Educational Leadership. His doctoral research on student achievement among college preparatory
students was noted by the American College Testing Program as being among the “best of its kind” when they petitioned
Dr. Aguillard to use his findings in their nationwide testing program. Prior to joining the Louisiana College faculty, he was
Superintendent of Schools in Beauregard Parish. He also served as Minister of Music and Worship in his home church Dry
Creek Baptist Church for almost 30 years. He and his wife, Judy, have three daughters, Jill, Julie, and Jodie.

to develop life skills and experience personal growth. Under former athletic directors, Sheila Johnson
and Tim Whitman, she worked to help make the Coca-Cola Lady Wildcats Softball Field a reality. In
2003, she became the Assistant to the Athletic Director and Coordinator of Health and Physical Education and Athletic Facilities. For the past several years, she has served as the NCAA Compliance Director
and NCAA Student Athlete Advisory Committee Sponsor. Over the years, Donnie has been instrumental in coordinating travel for LC sports teams; coordinating and preparation of NCAA Regional bids and coordinating ASC and NCAA tournaments.

Mike Byrnes
Head Coach
Mike Byrnes took over a struggling Louisiana College baseball program in 2000. Since then, the baseball program has reached heights never before seen in the program's history. Since being named the Wildcats'
head coach in May of 2000, Byrnes has transformed LC's Billy Allgood Field into one of the best facilities
in the American Southwest Conference. Through private donations, Allgood Field has undergone a face-lift
that has resulted in more than $1 million in improvements. Two falls ago, the Skip Converse Field House
was competed, providing the Wildcat payers with a state-of-the-art locker room. Byrnes' dedication and
hard work has been instrumental in turning around a team that had a combined record of 47-102 in the three
years prior to Byrnes' arrival. Since Byrnes assumed the reigns, LC has posted a record of 205-205 with two berths in the National
Christian College Athletic Association's National Tournament and five berths in the American Southwest Conference Tournament
and have reached the postseason in eight of Byrnes' 10 years as head coach. In Byrnes' 10 decades of service at LC, 12 players
have signed professional contracts and the Wildcats have led the nation (NCAA Division III) in average attendance four times. The
Wildcats have also set 28 new team records under Byrnes. On the academic side, Byrnes' Wildcats have had more players named to
the ASC All-Academic team than any school the last two seasons. In total, and not counting 2011, 84 Wildcats have made Academic
All-Conference, 56 have earned All-ASC honors and one has been named to the All-America team. Last year, Byrnes coached LC
to its fifth American Southwest Conference Tournament berth in six years, a feat which earned Byrnes and the Wildcats assistants
the title of ASC East Division Coaching Staff of the Year.
Byrnes' coaching successes have not been limited just to college, or even baseball. Before taking over at LC, Byrnes put
together quite the resume as a high school coach over a 14-year career in the Central Louisiana area. He was also the head football
coach at Tioga (La.) High School for seven years. During his time on the gridiron, his teams produced a combined win-loss record of
49-24 and won two district championships. He also coached the Tioga High Powerlifting team to three state championships in 1989,
1990 and 1991. He was named Louisiana Powerlifting Coach of the Year in each of those three seasons. Of course, Byrnes' greatest
success as a high school coach came when he was the head baseball coach at Tioga. During his six years at Tioga, the baseball team
went a combined 125-46 and on back-to-back state title in 1986 and 1987. In 1986, Byrnes was named Central Louisiana Coach
of the Year. In 1987, he was named Louisiana Baseball Coach of the Year and was chosen to coach the East All-Stars in Louisiana
High School Athletics Association's All-Star Game. Byrnes has also served as an associate scout for the Texas Rangers and Chicago
Cubs from 1982-1994. Byrnes is a 1978 graduate of Louisiana College and is married to the former Colynda Hayes. They currently
live in Tioga, La., and have two sons (Mike III and Matthew) and one grandaughter (Briley Sue Byrnes, age 18 months).

louisiana College Baseball Facilities
Billy Allgood Field
Billy Allgood field was originally built in the early 1970’s,
when baseball was restarted at LC after a hiatus. The field
remained basically the same until Mike Byrnes was hired
in the spring of 2000.
Since Byrnes’ arrival, more than $1 million worth of
improvements have been implemented, all through private
donations. An outfield wall, new scoreboard, message
center on the scoreboard, new batting cages, a perimenter
fence surrounding the facilities, chairback seats, a cover
over the stands, a new pressbox, a new sound-system,
walkways in front of the dugouts, a brick backstop, along with great improvements to the playing surface have
all been installed or built under Byrnes. The newest addition is the Skip Converse Fieldhouse, which is a 2400
square foot facility that houses a players’ lounge, locker room, player showers and restroom, and coaches offices.
Dimensions: 325’ LF, 365’ LCF, 390’ CF, 355 RCF’, 315’ RF with a 12 foot wall all-around and a 16-foot
wall in center field.
Skip Converse Fieldhouse
Skip Converse Fieldhouse’s
construction was completed
in October of 2007. The
Fieldhouse provides new
coaches offices for the Wildcat
baseball coaches. It’s 2,400
total square feet also provides
a players lounge (pictured)
with couches and a big-screen
television and a locker room
(pictured) along with showers
and restrooms for players, storage and laundry facilities, and restrooms. Construction was made possible from
private donations and Skip Converse Construction Co. building the facility for cost.
