Things to Know for this Assignment

A range of cells are used to generate charts and graphs. It’s
important to select the right cells in order to get the same
graph as the reference picture. Step 2 on Excel 82 wants
you to select the range A4:E12, this means that it wants you
to click and hold the left mouse button on cell A4, and drag
it down to cell E12. This will make a box around those cells.

Step 1 on Excel 94 wants you to select the range A5:A12
and also the range F5:F12 for a pie chart. The first range of
cells are the different countries. Excel will understand that
this isn’t numeric and will put these into the
legend. The second range are the total
amounts, which it will use to make the
slices of the chart. The chart will
automatically create proportionate slices
for the data provided.

If the chart just isn’t doing what you want it
to do you can click on the Select Data
button and redo it. However, it’s usually
easier to delete the chart and start over.

Instead of trying to add, remove, and move around different areas of a chart, Excel has Quick
Layouts that will help you make the chart you want quicker. You can start with a quick layout for
most of the charts you will make for this course.

You might have to click multiple times on the chart to only select one part of it. You can tell how
much of the chart you have selected by the little blue dots that appear on the corners of the chart
elements. If you click on the pie chart you will probably have the entire chart selected. If you click
once more, you might now have all of the slices selected, and if you click one more time, then you
might have only one slice selected.

Although you aren’t printing the assignment, if you follow Step 8 on Excel 94 it will fit everything to
one page for you. Once you do that step you can click the back arrow instead of printing and submit
the assignment.
