101 HELLO KINDERGARTEN
Do you want to prevent “new school anxiety” in August? Have fun using kindergarten materials to do
kindergarten activities: phonemic awareness, phonics, math, science, computers, recess, art, singing, center
time and more. Experience big books, poems, songs, science experiments and cooking. Come learn the ins
and outs of being a successful kindergartener from a Howard kindergarten teacher. On Thursday, we will
take a short bus ride on an Alamo Heights school bus to Howard Early Childhood Center where we
will spend the morning becoming familiar with Howard by listening to a story in the library, having a
snack and spend some time on the Howard playgrounds! Your child will find that school is a comfortable
place to have FUN while learning! (This class is a condensed version of the Extended Day Kindergarten
Preview class offered week three.)

102 SAY ¡HOLA! TO SPANISH!
¡Hola, amigos! Do you speak Spanish at home? Are you starting dual language or immersion in the fall? Would
you like to learn or practice Spanish through songs, games and fun activities? If the answer is yes, then come
and say ¡Hola! to Spanish. In this class, you will sing, dance and play while practicing colors, numbers, and
other Spanish vocabulary. We will apply our learning through play centers and learning activities. Please join
in the fun even if you already speak Spanish. It is cool to become the expert and help your friends. You will
have a blast getting a jump-start on Spanish. ¡Ándale!

103 YOUNG AT ART
Young at Art classes for younger kids are all about creativity! You will use your
imagination while using a wide variety of materials such as paints, oil pastels, clays
and more. Participants will also explore artists, techniques, world cultures, and
more as well as have the opportunity to acquire new skills and techniques. Young
at Art class offers child-friendly and relevant subject matter to spark interest and
increase knowledge retention, never losing sight that children learn best when
they are engaged.

104 YOGA ADVENTURE I
Calling all incoming Kinder - 2nd graders who want a space to use their imaginations, slow down and relax,
take some fun risks, and challenge their bodies to grow strong and flexible. Each day we will explore a story
book that will inspire our movement for the class. Your teacher is certified to teach kids yoga and can’t wait to
teach you all the cool things your body can do. Get ready to move and breathe in new ways, and be prepared
to laugh and sweat with some new friends!

105 BASKETBALL FUN!
Come spend a week learning about the exciting game of basketball. Learn from a group of very experienced
coaches with over 30 years’ experience at this level. This camp will help you learn the basics of how to
shoot, pass, dribble and play defense. At the end of the session, you will put on a ball handling performance
to show off your new moves to all your adoring fans. Some exciting highlights of camp are scrimmaging,
shooting and dribbling games, and receiving a goody bag after your performance on Friday. Past parents and
participants give this camp an A+!!

106 CALLING ALL AMERICAN GIRLS—HERE WE GO CAMPING
American Girls love to explore the outdoors and camp. Come with us as we go camping in style. Each day we
will make crafts for you and your doll. We will start with a tent and sleeping bag. You will also make s’mores
over your own fire pit, a lantern, chair and more! Any 18” doll will do, it does not need to be an American Girl
doll. Please leave small accessories at home as they are easily lost.

107 CHESS FOR BEGINNERS
You can learn to play chess from the championship chess coach featured on CBS Evening News, HBOs “Real
Sports with Bryant Gumbel” and most recently on “Texas Country Reporter.” Learn the basics of this ancient
and challenging game which will provide a lifetime of enjoyment. You will learn chess terminology, rules, and
fundamentals while developing important critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Best of all, kids love to
play chess! Mr. Harwood has had great success developing new players of all ages and his teams have won
numerous state and national championships. Don’t miss this excellent opportunity available in San Antonio

108 KOOKING 4 KIDDOZ
You will have a great week of cooking all NEW recipes for breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner. Everyone will
have a chance to create summer smoothies as well. You will learn how to plate food, set the table, control
portions, increase nutrition and even fold napkins. We will have a “live” cooking show at the end of the week.
So, come on out and put on your chef’s hat and apron, and learn to cook!

109 FUN WITH LEGOS!
Do you like building with Legos? This Lego camp is for kids who love to create, build, and make discoveries
using Legos. We will build engineering based projects such as boats, cars, robots, air powered mechanisms,
and all kinds of gadgets with gears using specialized kits to create fun and interesting creations. We will
also be building from kits such as the Minecraft Crafting Kits and Technic cars. Builders will work with
age appropriate and challenging Lego sets. There are thousands of free build Lego pieces available for
imaginative play and to build the most complex creations. We will focus on creating a fun, friendly and
caring environment for all Lego builders. Come explore the creative possibilities of the Lego building system
with the guidance of an experienced Lego instructor. This is an ideal way to prepare young builders for the
challenge of engineering FUNdamentals!

110 TENNIS ANYONE?
This exciting, week-long class will introduce tennis as a fun and lifelong sport. You will learn basic strokes
through fun drills and match play. This will also be a great opportunity for you to refine your skills and learn
the rules of the game. Don’t forget your sunscreen, water bottle, and favorite racquet. (Racquets will be
available if needed.) Prizes, popsicles, and water will also be provided. Camp taught by AHJS tennis coach
and former players.

111 GIVE IT A (BATON) TWIRL Did you happen to notice the awesome Baton Twirler at the Mule Football
games? Well, that can be you one day! Calling all future majorettes....
come and give it a twirl! This baton class will teach you basic baton tricks,
FUNdamentals and fun routines to the Alamo Heights Fight Song and other
hip songs! You will also learn some cool dance moves and gymnastics. We
will also take some time to decorate our batons with fun colorful tape! Be
ready to perform on Friday as we put on a memorable performance for your
family. There will be fun opportunities to win camp prizes and, of course,
you get to keep your baton. Once you pick up a baton, you can’t put it down!

112 FAIRY TALE STEM
Attention all young scientists! Have fun solving engineering challenges inspired by 5 of your favorite fairy tale
characters. Build a pulley for Rapunzel, a raft for the Three Billy Goats, a zip line for Little Red Riding Hood,
and more!

113 ICING, CHOCOLATE, AND FONDANT! OH MY!
Join the culinary adventure of dessert decorating in this entertaining and exciting class! Learn the basic
skills of using icing, modeling chocolate and fondant while creating a variety of edible creations! With your
imagination and creative talent, the possibilities are endless! At the end of the week, you will participate in
“Cupcake Wars” contest, bring home your original creation, a personalized apron, and a recipe collection
to share with family and friends! Get ready for a fantastic and fun week! Course fees include the cost of
ingredients, workstation tools and personalized apron.

114 STAR WARS… The Fun Returns
By popular demand… the Force is back, and you’ll want to join this journey of epic STAR WARS fun and let your
imagination run wild! Every Jedi (or Sith) will make their very own light sabers and of course, create new and
amazing outer space crafts and enjoy galaxy activities, too! There will be plenty of Star Wars sets to build to
create a galaxy of STAR WARS sagas. It’ll be out of this world, galactic, STAR WARS and hands-on science fun!
Remember…the Force will be with you always during this summer fun at Summer at Heights! As Yoda would

116 EXTREME DISSECTIONS 101
Ever wonder what the inside of an organism looks like? In this week, you will dissect various specimens on
your own, for all the guts and glory! You will dig into a sheep’s eye, pull apart a grasshopper, and dive into
frog guts. There will also be earthworms, Crayfish, perch, and starfish. You will learn the anatomy and
function of various organs for these specimens. You will take home fun and exciting pictures at the end of
the week in your dissecting Smash Book. Don’t miss out on this fun experience, so enroll early! (a small snack
will be included each day)

117 VOLLEYBALL FUN
During this amazing course, you will learn and practice many volleyball skills such as serving, passing, setting,
and more. We work with beginners as well as players wanting to try out for club or school teams in the future.
This fun camp is open to boys and girls of any skill level. You will learn through cool games and enjoy prizes,
too. Don’t miss this FUN camp. Midday transportation to/from Woodridge is provided for FULL-DAY campers.

118 GIRLS LACROSSE
Join the UTSA Women’s Lacrosse coaching staff as they teach girls the fastest team sport on two feet - Girl’s
Lacrosse. This camp is designed for both the beginner and experienced player. If a player has their own stick
and goggles, please bring them. There will be loaner sticks and goggles for beginning players. All players will
receive a new mouth guard unless the player has braces. Those players will need to check with their dentist
for a proper mouth guard.

119 TRIATHLON 101
“Swimming” and Biking and Running. . .OH MY!!! Come learn the sport of
triathlons and duathlons! Athletes of all levels will explore bike and running
skills, drills, age-appropriate strength training, dynamic and static stretching,
nutritional discussion, transition work, and much more in a structured,
supervised environment. The week will include jogging and biking through the
neighborhood with one jog leading to Cycle Hub for an indoor cycling session.
There will be fun, active games and relays in the gym and on the track. By the
end of the week, participants will leave with an understanding of an individual
sport that can last them a lifetime!!! Please bring your bike, helmet and water
bottle.

120 ENGINEERING FOR NATURAL DISASTERS!
Join STORM CHASER and STEM teacher Jeff Wheatcraft and design structures to survive earthquakes,
tornados, and tsunamis! You will also build your very own weather center. You do not want to miss this
amazing course only offered at Summer at Heights!

121 CSI: ALAMO HEIGHTS
Are you ready to catch a criminal? Do you know what it takes to collect evidence and clear the innocent? Then
you need to take this class. Dusting for prints and using luminol to look for biological evidence are just a few
of the techniques you will learn to aid in an investigation. By the end of the week your forensic skills will serve
you and the community for the rest of the summer! Put your thinking caps on because criminals do not make
catching them easy!
