-PREAMBLEThe purpose of the Bates Book Club is to have students and faculty come together to
discuss interesting novels that would normally not be included in the Bates curriculum.
There are no papers or tests. The club is a place to get together and discuss a book that is
chosen by the members.
-ARTICLE I: NAMEThe Bates Book Club.
-ARTICLE II: PURPOSEThe purpose of the Bates Book Club is to have students and faculty come together to
discuss interesting novels that would normally not be included in the Bates curriculum.
There are no papers or tests. The club is a place to get together and discuss a book that is
chosen by the members.
-ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIPTo become a member of the Bates Book Club you need only attend one of the meetings
of the organization. You will then be placed on the emaillist and the "master" list of all
participating members. No member is required to come to any meetings. Any member
or visitor can make suggestions. The two head officers of the Club will run the meetings.
All members will vote on what books to read after suggestions are made.
-ARTICLE IV: OFFICERSThere will be two officers of the Bates Book Club. Their titles will be co-presidents of
the Bates Book Club. A te1111at presidency will last for one year and then nominations
will be made by members at the end of the year for a vote. Presidents will be in charge of
allocating funds and getting the meetings together.
-ARTICLE V: FINANCESThe Bates Book Club's funds will be used to purchase one copy of each book for club
members to read and to keep as a Book Club copy. We would also like to provide
refreshments at om meetings to enhance the relaxed atmosphere.
-ARTICLE VI: AMENDMENTSAn Amendment to the Constitution will take a % vote of members. To make a vote
official there must be at least 4 members of the Club present at vote (2 more than the
presidents).
