THE MANE EVENT – LEADERSHIP AND MEMBERSHIP Seminar
Patti A. Repenn-Volante
Group Manager, District and Club Service and Leadership Development Group at Lions Clubs International HQ.
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a lion? Its boldness? Its
majestic carriage? Its unwavering confidence? Perhaps it is its magnificent appearance
…..that spectacular mane. It is said that the fuller the mane, the stronger the lion. That’s
more than likely what we think of when we think of a lion, we think of strength. It is that
individual lion’s strength that contributes to the strength of the entire pride, just like our
individual clubs make our association strong and able to thrive. It is the state of our clubs
that determines our impact, and the state of our clubs is founded on membership and leadership.
This is the focus of THE MANE EVENT, coming to the ANZI Pacific Forum on Friday 4th September
@ 3.15 pm. [Friday—Session 2].
THE MANE EVENT will be high energy, interactive, informative and fun. Messages
related to a variety of membership and leadership topics will be delivered by The MANE
EVENT team of presenters. The event will be fast paced and will provide time for your
discussion and consideration. Oh, and did we mention prizes?? Yes, there will be prizes!

Election Compliance? What?
Lions Clubs International is strengthening its Constitution and By-Laws from 2016
on and there are a number of by-law provisions that will become mandatory from
that time. With the result of the vote in Honolulu at the end of June there will also
be changes in the constitution regarding Clubs eligibility to vote at District
Conventions.
These changes are designed to strengthen the integrity of the election of District Governors and
Vice District Governors and to ensure the election system is open, fair and transparent.
This will affect every District and Club in our Constitutional Area.
Fortunately there will be a Forum Session on Saturday morning Session 3A @8.30 am where we
can discuss and examine these changes so that we are well prepared come 2016.
The “New Election Compliance” session will be an important informational session for Cabinet
Secretaries, Legal and Constitution advisors, Convention Chairpersons, Zone Chairpersons, District
Governors, Vice District Governors, Club Secretaries and Treasurers, Candidates and any other
Lion connected in any way with Conventions, elections and voting.
I look forward to seeing you there and getting your views on how we can ensure these changes
are implemented.
PID Ron Luxton.

‘Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow’
Greetings Lions,
Another month closer to our Forum in September and the excitement continues to build. This week I
was pleased to hear from Registrar Lynette that we have our first 180 fully booked and paid up members
which is fabulous. I am working on the old theory that Lions never do anything until the last month or
with two weeks to go but Lions don't leave it to long to act on this or everything will be filled up and we
want you to arrive without being rushed. We are therefore on track to have a great weekend, We have
a number of Lions booked for the golf tournament and all forums and events are filling nicely thank you.
Shortly we will be writing to all club Presidents within New Zealand asking them (with the support of
their clubs) to consider supporting the forum by being in attendance for the weekend, after all
Knowledge is Power and what better investment can we make in our clubs than ensuring our club
leaders are fully informed.
I hope in the next issue to be able to let you know the confirmed names of some of our guest speakers
and who have been approached to speak at special lunchtime slots.
So then, if your booked well done - if you have not got there yet do it soon, and if you’re like me saying I
MUST DO THAT - THEN DO THAT! Now where’s my pen?
Yours in Service

Some Things to do while visiting Auckland
Check out the local wildlife
Get up close to hundreds of animals at Auckland Zoo, see penguins,
sharks and thousands of colourful fish at Kelly Tarlton’s SEA LIFE
Aquarium, and walk through the tropical butterfly house at Butterfly
Creek. Go on a dolphin and whale safari in the Hauraki Gulf, or walk
among rare native birds on Tiritiri Matangi Island, an open wildlife
sanctuary
Immerse yourself in art
Auckland has a thriving arts community and numerous galleries to
explore, whether you’re browsing or buying. Wander through the
beautiful heritage building of Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki (with
free entry) to discover an exceptional collection of traditional and
contemporary art and check out the latest exhibitions. Combine art and
beautiful scenery with a walk through a sculpture park – try Brick Bay
Sculpture Trail (pictured) in Matakana,
Coffee and people watching
A crisp autumn day is the perfect time to head to Viaduct
Harbour, Wynyard Quarter or Britomart to sip on a delicious hot coffee
and watch the world go by. Auckland’s mild weather means you can still
sit outside and enjoy the sun, and many restaurants have sheltered
outdoor
Update your wardrobe
Check out the new season’s fashions in Newmarket, the shopping capital
of New Zealand. Find high street stores and top designers on Nuffield
and Teed Streets, stroll up the buzzing Broadway strip or wander
through the Westfield 277 mall, one of the country’s leading shopping
centres. Relax afterwards at one of Newmarket’s stylish cafésareas to
cozy up in on rainy days.
Climb or jump?
Get a dose of adrenalin and the best views in Auckland at the same
time. Climb to the top of the Auckland Harbour Bridge high above the
waves, and if you’re game bungy jump from the bridge in New Zealand’s
only ocean-touch bungy. For more adventure, try the SkyJump and leap
off the Sky Tower, or SkyWalkaround the outside 192 metres above the
ground
Wine tasting
Spend a few hours sipping on award-winning drops at some of
Auckland’s superb wineries. Auckland has not one but four wine regions
to discover – Matakana to the north, Kumeu to the west, Clevedon to the
east and Waiheke Island, the ‘island of wine’, in the Hauraki Gulf. Enjoy
wine tastings, delicious food and gorgeous scenery. Hop on a tour with
friends or explore at your own pace.
New Zealand Maritime Museum The Museum's steam tug SS Puke
was built by E. Thompson and Son at Aratapu, towards the end of the
19th century. Carrying just five passengers at a time, SS Puke steaming
trips head out from the Museum on regular Saturdays and last 25
minutes each. SS Puke trips depart on the hour and half hour from 1pm
until 4pm (3.30pm is the last departure). You can climb on board every
other Saturday from April - October.
