Broward College Opportunity Scholarship
Open to all Broward County High School seniors and currently enrolled
Broward College freshman who plan to attend Broward College in the fall
of 2015.
Requirements: Recipients must
• attend Broward College 2015-2016,
• be registered voters in Broward County, and
• submit essay responses to two civic duty related prompts.
(200-250 words each).

font and double-spaced)
1) The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan organization founded in 1920, was
instrumental in assuring the passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which gave
women the right to vote. Explain why activism and advocacy to influence public policy are still
important today.
2) The League of Women Voters believes in “Making Democracy Work” through active voter
services: registering voters, protecting voter rights, and educating voters on public policy. How
would you propose to encourage more young voters to become engaged in the democratic
process?
