Browsing Tips

You can go back and forth through your recent history by clicking the mouse on the BACK and
FORWARD arrow navigation buttons and HOLDING DOWN to see a navigation list.

Use TABBED browsing to have multiple web pages open at the same time

DRAG TABS to reorder them on the tab bar of the browser

To open a link in a new window or tab, RIGHT CLICK the link and choose Open In New Window or
Open In New Tab

Zoom in and out of web pages by holding CTRL and using the Mouse Wheel

REFRESHING a page means you re-download it to your computer. To do an ABSOLUTE RELOAD
hold down the SHIFT key as you click the refresh button

Print just part of a web page by first DRAGGING to select it, and then in the Print window, choose
SELECTION.

To print only certain pages, and to know what pages you want to print, first choose PRINT PREVIEW
and note the page numbers, then in the Print window choose PAGES and type in the range.
Searching Tips


When searching at Google:
o
After doing an initial search, refine the search by using MINUS (-) in front of a keyword to
exclude pages with that word.
o
Use quotes around a group of words to search them as a phrase
o
To search a specific site, at the end of the search phrase use site:mysite.com, where
mysite.com is the address you want to search.
o
Try using the ADVANCED SEARCH (type that into the Google search box to find it).
Try a different browser:
o
Firefox (www.mozilla.com)
o
Google Chrome (www.google.com/chrome)
o
Apple Safari (www.apple.com/safari/)

Always make sure you have AntiVirus / Antispyware and a Firewall
o Free: AVG Anti-Virus (free.avg.com).

Make sure Windows Automatic Updates is turned on (Control Panel)

NEVER click on email links to your financial institutions (banks, PayPal, eBay, etc.) (Phishing)
