Exam 1 Topics
The following topics from chapters 1 and 2 will be covered on the exam. While you are responsible for
all topics covered in class or homework, these are critical will be emphasized. You may use a nongraphing calculator but may be asked to find the exact value of a trigonometric angle. For example

Chapter 1
All definitions and terms.
Angles in standard position, coterminal angles, acute, complementary, and supplementary.
Similar triangles and their applications.
Trigonometric functions defined for angles in standard position and quadrantal angles.
Reciprocal, quotient, and Pythagorean identities.
Chapter 2
Trigonometric functions defined for acute angles, right triangle trigonometry, and 30/60 and 45 degree
angles in particular.
Trigonometric function values for non-acute angles, reference angles.
Using a calculator to solve right triangles.
Application problems: bearing and distance, find the height of a right triangle such as p. 83 number 31.
