These are the project choices you can choose from to learn about el Día de los Muertos.
Make sure your name is on everything and everything is clearly labeled!

*If you choose a cooking option YOU are responsible for cooking it AND FOR CLEANING UP
AFTERWARD. This is YOUR project, not your mom’s/dad’s/auntie’s/grandma’s/etc. project!
1) Worksheet #2 over Día de
los Muertos
Do the 2nd reading & worksheet over Día de los Muertos.
2) Decorate a ​skeleton
Put together and decorate a skeleton in the
cheerful manner associated with Día de los
Muertos. Get the bones from Profe, then create
your own d
​ etailed​ character/outfit.
3) Cook ​Pan de los Muertos
(Day of the Dead Bread) for

Cook Day of the Dead bread at home and bring it to share with
the class. Get the recipe from Profe or use one of these

4) Make a shoebox altar
Research Día de los Muertos ofrendas
(altars) online, then create your own
shoebox ofrenda (altar) celebrating the life
of a deceased family member or a
deceased celebrity.

5) Make
papel picado
Use tissue paper or construction paper to
create your own string of papel picado with
several different designs for Día de los
Muertos. Find patterns online, use Profe’s
book, or create your own patterns.
6) Create & share a
presentation
Create a presentation WITH VISUAL AIDS and ​sources cited
that shows pictures, shares traditions, and gives historical
information about Día de los Muertos. You will share your
presentation with the whole class.
7) Illustrate Día de los
Muertos Spanish vocabulary
Create a children’s book or a Google Presentation that shows
picture​s​ of all of the Spanish vocabulary off of your Día de los
Muertos notes page. (Please include URLs for your pictures.)
8) Make a poster
Make a high-quality poster with information, examples, and
pictures of Día de los Muertos customs & traditions.
*Be sure to ​cite your sources​ for full credit!
9) Create & do your own
Spanish Día de los Muertos

Use the vocabulary from your Día de los Muertos notes page to
both create and then DO your crossword / word find with the
Spanish vocabulary words.
10) Make ​Sugar Skulls​ to
bring to class to share
Make and decorate sugar skulls at home and bring them to
show the class. Get the recipe from Profe or use one of these.
*Allow several days for
drying!
*Many of these recipes use a skull mold to form the skulls, or
you can check out skull molds from Profe (you will have to sign
a paper that says you will pay her $12 if you don’t return them)
or you can also purchase your own skull mold, skull ice cube
trays, cut open plastic skulls, etc.

11) Sugar skull (or skeleton)
sugar cookies
Sugar cookies are not traditional Día de los Muertos foods but
if you decorate them in the style of Día de los Muertos you will
still learn about the holiday.
Bake enough sugar skull or skeleton shaped sugar cookies for
our Spanish I class, then ice and decorate them in the style of
Día de los Muertos. They should have elaborate, detailed and
colorful icing designs! Bring your cookies in to share with
Profe...uh-hem, I mean, to share with the whole class!

12) Día de los Muertos
Sugar Skull Face Painting
Paint your face in the elaborate style of a Día de los Muertos
sugar skull. (This is not simple face painting and it should not
be scary or bloody!) Document the process with pictures or a
video that you turn in to Profe. Bonus points if you wear your
face painting to school!

13) Make a Day of the Dead
video
Use WeVideo or another video site to make a video about Día
de los Muertos traditions and customs, or acting out Día de los
Muertos traditions and customs.
14) Quizlet flashcard set
Make a Quizlet flashcard set with some pictures over the
vocabulary on the front and back of the Día de los Muertos
page. Attach the link to your flashcard set on the assignment
on Classroom.

15) Make the hot drink ​atole
for family/friends
Make the traditional Día de los Muertos hot drink a
​ tole at home
for your family or friends. Document the process with pictures
or a video of you cooking, and of your family/friends enjoying
the drink. ​Make sure you and your family/friends are IN the
pictures (so I know you didn’t just copy them off of the
internet!). Turn in the pictures/video on Classroom.
