PRE-TOUR A: Spooktacular
Thursday June 13, 2013
$84.00 per person
9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Waxahachie is more than 150 years old and has a rich architectural heritage, as evidenced in
its many historically-preserved buildings and homes. But the area is also known for its "earthbound spirits."
You'll begin exploring the historic downtown Waxahachie with a walking tour of the Ellis County Courthouse,
known as the state’s “most photographed courthouse” and noted for its unusually somber architectural details.
Paranormal activity is ever-present in our next venue, the historic Rogers Hotel, where hauntings have been recorded in
the lobby, basement, and two guest rooms. Your ghostly adventure continues as you lunch at the infamous 1895
Victorian home known as the Catfish Plantation, considered the “most haunted restaurant in the U.S.” You'll drive by a
replica of the Munster Mansion (remember television's Herman Munster, Grandpa and Eddie who lived at 1313
Mockingbird Lane?). Your tour also includes a visit to the Chautauqua Auditorium, built in 1902, and one of few remaining
in the U.S. These octagonal, wooden, open-air auditoriums began in 1874 by the New York Chautauqua Institution.
They spread throughout the U.S., serving as cultural centers for performances, lectures, and religious meetings.
INCLUSIONS: Deluxe coach transportation with certified tour guide providing commentary; Tours of Ellis County
Courthouse, Rogers Hotel, and Chautauqua Auditorium; Admission to Ellis County Museum; Lunch at Catfish Plantation
