2011 – Created Youth Endurance Sports (YES), a non-profit aimed to address the rising childhood obesity
epidemic and to bring fitness, nutrition and a sense of accomplishment to at-risk youth. The program
offered mentorship and coaching in running, cycling, nutrition and goal setting. The program provided
kids with free bikes, helmets, training shoes and other basic equipment to continue with their newfound healthy lifestyle.

ADDENDUM:
Courses Taught at Southern Methodist University
APSM 2340 Coaching and Leadership for Performance: Examines what coaches do, the qualities of
expert coaches, strategies for effective and cohesive programs, a sound coaching philosophy, and the
art and science of coaching.
WELL 2125 & PRW 2115, Intermediate Triathlon: This course prepares the student to complete an
Olympic distance triathlon – 1.5km swim, 40km bike, and a 10k run. Bicycle care, training progressions
and race strategies are covered.
WELL 2115, Beginning Triathlon: Learn the basics of triathlon while training for a sprint distance
triathlon. Course includes swimming, cycling and running.
WELL 2141, Intermediate Swimming: This class is for the intermediate swimmer. It provides an
opportunity to refine swimming stroke techniques and to gain more advanced swimming skills and
aerobic fitness.
PRW 2117, Beginning Marathon Training: This class helps students gain the skills and endurance needed
to complete the local Dallas Marathon at the end of the term. Additionally, student engage in selected
activities designed to target health-related fitness.
WELL 2110, Jogging: Provides an opportunity to improve cardiovascular endurance by running.
WELL 2161, Basketball: Teaches the fundamentals of playing basketball using team drills and offensive
and defensive formations and strategy. Augments skill development with game-like conditions.
WELL 1101, Concepts of Wellness: This is primarily an information-oriented course that focuses on
issues of attitude, change, adaptation to change, personal responsibility and happiness. In general, the
course content increases awareness of the relationship between our thoughts and lifestyle choices and
how they relate to health, fitness and effectiveness as well as an improved sense of meaning, purpose
and well-being.
WELL 2113 and PRW 2110, Individual Fitness & Weight Training: This course is set up to allow students
to develop a personal exercise program utilizing the resources at the Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports.
Using some basic principles from contemporary exercise science, the student will test and evaluate their
own strengths and weaknesses in terms of health and fitness. This course provides an opportunity for
the student to improve in the areas of cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, and
flexibility.
WELL 2131, Mountain Sports: This class focuses on enjoying the amazing activities one can perform in
the great outdoors. The class includes several hikes, white water rafting, mountain biking, fly fishing,
horseback riding, rock climbing and kayaking. (SMU-in-Taos program)
WELL 2135, Racquetball I: Racquetball classes are designed to accommodate all levels of physical skill.
Rules, safety, skill techniques, strategy and competitive play are progressively introduced throughout
the semester.
