Safety in Power Washing a Foaming Pit
– Make sure everyone is aware that breaking foam releases methane and may be dangerous in confined spaces
Safety in Power Washing a Foaming Pit
• Prior to anyone entering the building
– Turn off gas line OUTSIDE of the building
– Shut off electric to feed lines
– Run Stage 2 or higher ventilation for at least 30 minutes
• Knock down the foam with water
– NO furnaces operating
– Stage 2 or higher ventilation operating
• To relight furnaces
– Wait for 30 minutes of Stage 2 or higher ventilation after knock‐down

• Spark ignition furnaces – turn off power
– Shut off electric to room (other than fans) if possible
– Run Stage 2 or higher ventilation for at least 30 minutes
